Where to Find Oberheim Xpander Power Transformer or Equivale

Postby analoglsd » Fri Apr 29, 2016 7:39 pm

I'm looking for a replacement power transformer for an Oberheim Xpander.
This one: 561023 power XFMR 30 KHz. INCON 8103-TI
Does anyone know of an available equivalent?
Thanks.

First, just wondering how you determined T2 is bad -- open/shorted winding(s)?

Unless someone was able to source a replacement while info on the Incon part was still available, you might be out of luck. Unfortunately, T2 is part of the switching power supply and rather specialized (possibly custom for Oberheim), so there won't be a generic equivalent. And since both the part and specs for it seem to be unavailable, even being able to find something "close enough" to work would be a crapshoot.

You could eliminate T1, T2 and most of the power supply components by using an off-the-shelf switcher like this http://www.trcelectronics.com/View/IPD/REL-70-4004.shtml to provide the +/-5V and +/-12V outputs, but the two outputs for the displays wouldn't be quite as easy. I'll do some thinking on that this evening ...

Trying to find specs for the VFD to design a retrofit circuit for the remaining P/S outputs, but not having much luck. I may have to just find some similar displays and work with those. I'd hate for you to use yours as a guinea pig for the experiment. :?
