Virus B keeps losing sounds

Post by chamomileshark » Tue Jul 19, 2016 8:05 pm

I switched on my Virus B today and it was saying something about global initialise - asking if I wanted to keep the old sounds or not. I said keep the old sounds but all the banks were empty.

I did a Global initialize and asked it to load the original sounds. Fine. I got it to pick up an old midi dump I'd done, again fine.

Turned it off and on again. Same thing. Sounds lost.

Is it the battery? If so how easy is it for a complete novice to fix?

If not I suppose there aren't any issues other than having to reload the sounds each time?

Yep it's the battery that has died. The synth stores user patches in RAM which needs some kind of power to keep it's contents. When you turn it off, the battery takes over, and if the battery isn't working everything gets wiped every time you switch your synth off.

The factory data is stored in a ROM chip which doesn't need any power to keep its contents, but it can't be written to, so you can't store user patches there.

Check the manual or google for access virus b battery replacement.
