Korg DW8000: How to disassemble keys?

Postby klavix » Mon Dec 26, 2016 7:18 pm

Hi Guys!

I would disassemble the keys of my DW8000 because over the years have become very noisy and accumulated dirt. I would like to solve this problem of noise, but I need help figuring out how to dismantle them without making a mess. I extracted the mechanics and removed the circuit part of the keys.
I saw that there is' a spring under each key which is attached to the metal casing.

Does anyone have some experience/useful advice on this?

Below two pictures of the bottom where you can see the springs:

Gently pull the keys forward (ie. toward the player) to release the tab at the rear of the plastic key: there is a notch that hinges on the metal chassis. Watch the springs--- they will fly! keep them seperated by key color. The springs are (were) two different shades of bronze. It will not kill you or the DW if someone has replaced them randomly.

Putting them BACK is the hard part. You will need a magnetic tool: a scriber with a magnet on the other end is perfect.
Turn the netal keyframs right side up, in playing position. Put the black keys in first: one at a time, olace a spring on the metal: the end with the ;notch' fits into the notch in the hole in the keyframe. Rest the bent end od the spring on the very edge of the hole. Gently lower the plactic key over the spring. About half the time, you'll know the spring off.
Press the key down and let it snal into the metal frame.

EDIT: What a mess! my typing is in the crapper today !!

Thanks for the answer, I've more clearly identified what are the steps, but I do not understand why I need a magnetic tool and how it should be used..

A magnetic tool just helps position the springs on the white keys between the black ones. At least for my fat fingers.

I have successfully dismounted the keys, a lot of dirt coming off...

Aftertouch strip is a little deformed and the felt is worn.

Now I don't know how to proceed, wishing to replace the aftertouch felt, how must be thick and what density?
How deoxidizes contacts and solve the problem of deformation?
I can't find much information on the net ..
