Here's the track I've been working on last week:

Opening theme song from the "Pokemon" anime, played and recorded '80s style.

I used two analog polys that I've built - older "B5" keyboard for second lead and "sync-lead" solo, and latest 8 voice module prototype, which plays main lead, brass, strings, arpeggio and additional layer of drums. Bass is made with Yamaha DSR-2000 4op FM synth, while DX7 provides second layer of bass and rest of poly sounds. Tom fills are played on EDD5 analog drum synth triggered from pads.

Synths took 14 tracks spread over two tapes.

Main drums are played by Yamaha RX11 (kick, snare, hats) and Roland TR626 (crash, floor tom) sequenced from Yamaha QY700 slaved to tape. So there are totally 16 tracks - 14 on tape, and 2 "live" from drum machines.

Fostex 80 tape recorders are synced together using Fostex 4030 synchronizer. "Master" deck is also connected to 4050 controller/autolocator which generates MIDI clock for QY700.

Effects used are two tape delays (Dynacord Echocord Mini and Sochor, which is kind of Echocord clone made in Poland in late '70s), ADS Digital Delay 500 used as chorus (short delay with LFO modulation), and Digitech Studio Quad as reverb.

Mixed on Behringer MX9000 console.

It sounds great! Really captured the high energy and beat of the theme song. Feels like I'm back to my childhood. Looks like you've recorded it in analog with the multi track tape recorder? Sounds great nonetheless.

Thank you :-) Yes, it is analog recording done with two synchronized 8 track recorders. It's mixed down directly to computer as I don't have suitable stereo deck... yet ;-) (I only have 7.5ips quarter track decks)
