First house/electro song, would really appreciate critiquing

Post by Haydn » Mon Oct 13, 2008 9:22 am

As the subject says, this is my first house/electro song, and this is basically the first track I've ever made in the electronic category. I bought an MPC and Micron a few months ago, started working with ideas and have come to this.

I would really appreciate some honest opinions on this track.

Please note this track is NOT COMPLETELY MIXED YET, I mainly want you to critique it based on the songwriting aspect.

Here is the link: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default ... dID=881672

(It's titled track1)

Thanks all

First electronic song? And you've been on this synthesizer forum since '05? I don't follow...

Anyway, I actually really like this, & that's saying something because I really can't get into most house music. This actually feels like a well-developed song, & not an extended rhythm pattern (which, rightly or wrongly, a lot of the genre material that I've encountered has come off as, to me). I definitely want to hear more.

Thanks man!

Haha yeah I joined back in 05 when I was somewhat getting into electronic music but I went nowhere with it because I joined a serious band as guitarist.

Oh, I see. Do you have any samples of your "other" music? I'm kind of curious, now.

cool song!

You understand very well the structure of dance music, something I don't always have the easiest time comprehending myself when trying to write electronic music.. the whole "complex movements of simple parts". Very cool song! Nice "Justice - Stress" sample ;).

A couple parts could use a touch of reverb and the snare seems a little too loud at the start, but minor things to me. cool track! Is this all MPC + micron?

edit: the song reminds me a bit of ARROW!!!

^thanks man. Yeah I still have a lot of mixing to do on the track, and I've only added effects to some of the tracks.

Yes it's all micron and MPC.

And I'd never even heard of ARROW!!! but I checked em out and I like it a lot :)

More feedback please people!

This is _cool_ :)

I like the edgy/trash sound along with those classic things.

On the other hand:
Better control of bass frequencies. something is missing :|
Complete mix.
Mastering.

I _love_ it!!

(I love the low ceiling sound on the reverb - respect!)

ps. tHE TTrraaccks fOR remix?

i like your other band. its nice. production is pretty cool. with the glitching and all....

but iw as wondering whether or not those were samples in your house song? or your own voice sampled? or what....

Thanks everyone!

The vocals were sampled from some 70s era soul song. Can't remember the name.

I've only EQ'd a couple of the tracks, so hopefully I can get some more bass as I finish that process.

Still would appreciate more feedback from people :)
