New track - featuring Sexor on analogs & violins...

Post by Sexor » Fri Nov 28, 2008 4:53 pm

Here's a track I recently finished with a friend of mine (who apparently just joined VSE as Rproducions).
I'm super happy with it... we're gonna try to get it released for sure. It's already going on some compilation I think.

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/271648/SvenB ... 0Trips.mp3

We really went overboard with the production of this... it features:

NI Elektrik Piano > routed through a Small Stone phaser
Jomox MBase01 - Kick (what else?)
Moog Prodigy - bleepy melody
Teisco SX-400 - synth chords
Jupiter6
CS-10
SH-101
Polysix
Poly 800 > trippy distorted chords - hence the name.
MS-20 > through tape delay for fx
Orion sampler - rest of the drums... sliced and cut from some 70's records.
Violin - arranged, played and multitracked by yours truly. Recorded with a superduper stereo set of Behringer C2's
Bass
Guitar
Glockenspiel
Vintage tambourine

Enjoy it!

Very nice laid-back euro disco. It is a bit dense at points, but in that over-the-top Ulvaeus/Anderson sort of way. I would have liked a bit more variation in the rhythm track, but it's still a very tuneful, swinging track. I think the violin really works. Makes me want to buy one of those el-cheapo electric violins on eBay and see if I still know hoe to play. Great fun... Very Scandinavian.

I would agree with this. Overall very nice. Nice mix and overall sound. Curious if the "AHHHHHs" are real or synth. Nice touch. It still needs changes in the rhythm track. It gets a little monotonous after a while. Real nice job though!!!

nice! agreed with the others on the rythm tho, a bit too static, but other than that, a very nice production :) I kept waiting for a vocal of some sort, is this meant to be an instrumental? cause I really think some female vocals would do nice in there :)

good work :)

You two are bad bad men. You used everything but the kitchen sink.

This sounds like one of those smooth sexy tracks that gets the ladies on the dancefloor. Vocals could probably add to it and make it a dancing shoe wrecking machine.

This is great. It's so cool to hear acoustic instruments working together with synths and beats, there should be more of that in general. What did you use for mixing and recording? It sounds really good.

great overall flow and nice combo of elements. really like section @ 2:28 w/ the violin & vocal & guitar together. ace.
the glock' @ 3:44 is soooo much better than samples!
beat is fine, perhaps another kick on the "e-and of one" (the 2nd 16th) or the like can break it up a bit. the claps being a butt-hair ahead of the snare at times is a little distracting.

overall, bravissimo!
it's a fine track for closing out a morning set

sounded great. excellent writing and production. the drums didn't bother me, they let me kind of haze out. maybe a vocal would set the song on an even higher level, but it's great as is for an instrumental track.

Thanks for the comments. They are highly appreciated.

@optimus prime:

We used my Behringer 24 track desk and a set of Behringer C2 mics. h**l yeah for the big B =D>

The interface used was a MOTU 828 mkII USB which is patched through the sub-outs of the desk. The mic stuff went straight into the two MOTU preamps though. The wah guitar licks and some synth parts were recorded through yet another Behringer magic box, the V-Amp Pro. Reverb... courtesy of Behringer's Virtualizer. But also some plugins and stuff.

Some MS-20 parts (e.g. noise snare in the hihat break 1:08) were played through a Dynacord tape delay.

Most of the tracks were recorded into Sonar7 in this fashion. However during final mixdown to 2track, the jomox kick was summed in analog through the desk, straight from the machine, which was still triggered by midi.

The Rhodes sound was also summed in the mix straight to 2track... a separate output from the MOTU played the NI Elektrik Piano part... which was fed through a Small Stone phaser via aux and consequently into the Behringer reverb unit.

And someone asked about the vocals, yes those are my tender chords singing chords.

As for more vocals... we thought about it, but naaaah... why let some b***h ruin it and take all the attention
