DX7s used in the 80s?

I have heard a lot of famous names banded about linked to the DX7 family, yet there is a strange lack of any patches/sysex files recreating these sounds, do they exist or is it all false???

Does anyone know what was use to create the lead line in 'cars' by Gary Newman for example? What patch proof is there of the DX7's influence on 80s pop culture we can upload to our DX7's and relive the past with??

"Cars" was released in 1979 and is analog synths AFAIK?

As for wondering why there's not many sounds, it's cos the DX7 was mostly famous due to it's use of PRESETS (not many people bothered programming it). There was a massive add on card market that was used too, and people like Eno took time to program them to make some signature sounds...

Just do a damn search before asking stupid questions - it's VERY easy to find out the answers to BOTH of your questions if you'd just take a few moments.

If you can come here and post these questions, I'm pretty sure you have the skills to do this too.

I have looked but I found NO custom made 80s patches/sysex made to recreate classic 80s sounds on the net, if you know of these site rather than falling back on negative sarcasm why not educate the newbie, after all we all began knowing nothing, it is only by asking questions that we learn and become more than some of our parts

A-ha used DX7s a lot early on, though i believe they warmed them up a bit by using older effects, so patches alone prob. wouldn;t get you exactly their sound.

Not so sure about later... they may have used other kit when they could afford it.

Famously they put sticky tape on the back of them to cover up several letters in the makers name.

Polymoog "strings", with a Minimoog doubling the bass part.

DX7 didn't come along until about five years later.
