Kraftwerk - The Model
Just a little cover I knocked up over the past few days. Constructive criticism welcome!

Re: Kraftwerk - The Model
This was one of the first Kraftwerk songs I ever heard...and one of my favourites.
I like the attempt to do the German accent, although I think it'd be funnier and more Kraftwerk-ish do just do it in a Scottish accent.
All are the sounds are pretty great; very spot on...what'd you use?
Edit: Holy s**t I type great stoned.

I keep meaning to cover Trans Europe Express, in a Yorkshire accent, and rename it "Trans Pennine Express"

Genius! Why didn't I think of that?polar69 wrote:"Trans Pennine Express"

RE:The Model; nice one OJ, it fits together pretty well. I think I side with the above comment about accent though. Give us a breakdown of what you've used then...

Nice cover OJ, i think the voice is fine, of course you could have done it in Ralf's original deadpan voice that he has. When you go into the instrumental parts there is something missing which is the Vako Orchestron choir (low in the mix), but of course these are just little details, perhaps you could slip a choir sound in their in a lower octave.
But overall... very nice indeed

Re: Kraftwerk - The Model
Thanks for the kind words guys! I know the vocals aren't the best fit but there's not a lot I can do about my voice.

Main riff lead - DX7 (layered with Juno-G bells in some parts)
Bass line - V-Synth
Pulse wave in 5ths - Juno-G
Strings - JX-10
Soft leads - V-Synth and Juno-G
Drums - ER-1

I'm actually thinking of replacing some of that parts anyway - bass line with the LP, leads and the pulse wave sequence with RA synths. I'll definitely keep the DX7 lead though - I'm sure in the original it's an analogue synth but the DX7 patch definitely has the right vibe for the track IMO.

Didn't think it'd take long for the gearheads to start asking questions. Very well.nathanscribe wrote:Give us a breakdown of what you've used then...

I know what you mean about that choir sound - I could hear it in the mix when listening but settled for the JX-10 strings for the moment. Nothing stopping me adding a similar sound later.Syn303 wrote:When you go into the instrumental parts there is something missing which is the Vako Orchestron choir (low in the mix), but of course these are just little details, perhaps you could slip a choir sound in their in a lower octave.

Very nice indeed!
IIRC the lead line on the original version was played on a Polymoog.

Wot, no LP? Crikey man, how can you cover this and NOT use your LP?
I like the DX-7 lead though. Would never have guessed.

Unfortunately this track was recorded at my new place and I haven't moved the LP in yet. These are all the keyboards that were available.nathanscribe wrote:Wot, no LP? Crikey man, how can you cover this and NOT use your LP?

There's also an organ too though.

Thanks! It's actually a modified brass preset from one of the original DX7 ROM cartridges.I like the DX-7 lead though. Would never have guessed.

Oooh, nice, is that the SK-50? Are that and the JX-10 yours? I got a JX-10 w/PG800 recently, and have to say it's a great piece of kit. Sounds amazing.

Ahaha, yes, that's what I had in mind, but a quantity of wine prevented my brain from revealing it to my fingers.Syn303 wrote:SK-50? that's a Yamaha YC-45D by the looks of it.nathanscribe wrote:Oooh, nice, is that the SK-50?
