what genre would you classify this music under? free EP too

Post by ghost blankets » Sat Jul 30, 2011 4:44 pm

looking for help figuring out what genre my music might fit into.

personally, i couldn't care less,- but tags rule the internet.

i've got a free EP out there for anyone interested at bandcamp:

http://ghostblankets.bandcamp.com/

here's a sample track from my soundcloud page

if anyone's interested... i used a mopho keyboard, Reaktor 5 and lots of samples.

cheers and thanks if you gave a listen and/or a genre specification.

I'd probably call it trip-hop.

mmm, very nice stuff mate - cool tune :)

I'd actually lean more towards chillout myself, it's got a more laidback feel and not as heavy as Trip tends to be.

Out of interest, what Reaktor ensembles do you like to use?

hmm. chillout - hadn't considered that, but that might be tag-worthy

as for Reaktor,- i like Carbon 2 (i hate the presets, but there are some great sounds to be tweaked out of it); i used to use laserbass a lot, but now that I have the mopho, i don't use it as much... there's a lot of great user ensembles that i use, one of them is called hMM2_2_7... it's this big, ugly black and neon monster that takes up the whole screen, but it's probably the most analog-sounding and interesting ensembles available for Reaktor... i love that one.

thanks again!

Cool, downloaded it now. :)

One more thing I really liked the tone of the drum samples, do you mind saying where they came from?

thanks again, i appreciate it.

that depends which drums you are talking about - the fingersnaps are simply canned and filtered

the other drums come from kits that i built from a wide variety of drum samples.

i used a bunch of free drum hits from this site:

Downtempo...maybe even Downtempo glitch or something, but at least Downtempo. (When in doubt, It's always Downtempo anyway) ;)
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...
