S-330, D-50, JV-880 Techno!

Post by D-Collector » Mon Aug 15, 2011 4:55 am

Here is a techno style track I made exclusively with the S-330, D-50 and JV-880.

S-330 = Drums (individual outs)
D-50 = "TB-303" emulation
JV-880 = DX-bass, pads, synth

Main song structure (Drums, Bass, "303") was sequenced with Director-S on the S-330, all units recorded directly into the 8 inputs on the Zoom R16, all effects and mixing done in the Zoom. Synthline and pads multitracked by hand afterwards on channels 9-16. Transfered mixdown to PC, added vocal samples, fades... I made 2 versions on the Zoom, the second is a more minimal approach. The track(s) is a tribute to a legend, can you guess who?

I hope you like the music!

awesome track! my favorite style too. can't figure out who it's a tribute to though...cosmic baby?
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

Thanks a lot, ninja! I think you have to be a fan of a certain sport to figure it out, the clue is in the vocal samples. Not artist related. ;)

Thanks multipack, I am glad to hear the quality is good on your end too! I tell you the R16 is great to work with, an awesome tool for a small setup like mine.

If it is of interest to anyone, the drum samples are from the converted Fairlight library. I dumped them without loss via midi straight into the S-330 and made a IIx kit. Very punchy samples, even more so from the 330.

Putting paid to the (incorrect) theory that the D-50 is just a rompler and only suitable for pads/bells/chiffs.

I know this is an old(ish) thread but I just thought I'd chime in here and say I really like this piece. The "climbing" leads sound great, and fit the style perfectly. Nice job!
