The Lightning Tree (Vocaloid Prima content)

Post by Purity_Control » Tue Sep 06, 2011 10:00 pm

lol well after something of a break, here is my first track proper for this year:

The Lightning Tree

Also my first serious effort with Vocaloid Prima, everything else is either Memotron, Jupiter 6, Doepfer modular or DR-880.

Any content not arising from the above was sent by god to trouble you.

Interesting. She's a little low in the mix. I had a hard time hearing what she was saying. Also, maybe her line needs some kind of softknee compression cause certain words peaked loudly while others were hard to pick up.

It seemed like somewhere in the middle everything got a bit clearer.
And so I went back to listen again and it's the same.
The intro phrases are low in the mix and she gets louder.

I would ***almost*** guess that some kind of panning is causing those peaks in her voice.
Once it comes in after she says "Round"...
Yes, I'd say a rotary or panning delay is in effect because it's not the same every time she speaks.

I applaud you work though. I only tried the early Leon and Lola and made one track that all the singers laughed at...
And so gave up. It was just too much work for those results, but it has been my dream to find a proper system besides 8 million samples, to replace the human voice.

I've even done research into gender-bending software, but they all seem to lean too heavily on pitch-shifting.

The vocal gets louder and a bit brighter in places because there is layering on the chorus, with a 2nd version in the same octave and a 3rd quieter in the next octave up, there is no panning or rotary on it... i may actually redo the vocal part or bits of it and review a few things while i'm at it, the compression is one of those.

The whole mix is a bit too wet as well and that isn;t helping things.

Thanks for the feedback on it.

The first versions were roflmao bad, back then i actually went with Virsyn Cantor instead as while it was less intelligable, it was less robotic, more fluid and the physical modelling seemed to have a lot of potential to develop. Really i don;t think it ever lived up to that potential, and Prima was nice enough to defect for, although i guess both together could be interesting too.

Finally finished this up, have decluttered the mix a bit, made everything a bit drier, brought the vocals forward, generally tidied up, also made a little vid for it:
