New Synthpop Bands You Like

Post by Mr. DiSco » Fri Nov 18, 2011 4:39 pm

As bands from the 80's get mentionned a lot here (obviously) I still wanted to make this thread so that you could post the new Synthpop bands that feel special to you.

I'll begin with two recent bands I like:

Future Island, I love their albums and the singer has such an interesting voice. :D

Ice Choir, really new band, only have two songs out, on a 7inch. The project of Kurt Feldman, The pains of being pure at heart member.

Which other recent synthpop bands have you enjoyed listening to? :D

Kindest Lines

Most anything Weird Records has been putting out have been excellent. Xeno & Oaklander, Martial Canterel, and Automelodi to name a few others...

Well... this isn't synthpop, but, I keep pushin' it..

It is new, and synthy, and kinda poppy, in an 80's apocalypse sci-fi kinda way---

This is the worst song I could have chosen, but i love the video
(dig the sidechaining, btw, thanks, Tallow)

I saw Tron in the theatre with my Mom when I was quite young. Anyway, Tron rules, and so do the toys and viddya games associated with original Tron. Remember Arcades?

I like some of Chromeo's stuff... mainly "night by night". I'm really digging Universal Poplab.

I was just turned onto this local (Dallas/Fort Worth) band that has a pretty good sound. Not sure how much they play outside Dallas, but I do know they just played in New York a week or so ago.

I like this song the most off their recent CD. The rest of the CD is not as dark as this track.

This girl kicks a*s:

And when it comes down to genuine old-school synth-pop, nothing beats Robyn's Body Talk ablum(s)

synthpop is one of those odd genre monikers I don't really understand. If it's mainly a synth and 4/4 or thereabouts I say it's fair game.

anyway :) We Have Band - this whole album is grand.

austra
(i'm not sure what the semi-naked interpretive dancing has to do with anything, but fantastic nonetheless)

+1, big fan of night by night.

something ala mode - 5am
(this one has vocals, the other's don't necessarily) and not really "synthpop" as much as a sort of post hip hop house-y something or other.

that's all i can think of atm. but if it's synthpop, my favorite band is "the faint". they're old, so idk if they count :)
