also, their song le cirque en rose has a killer lead towards the beginning, on a jp-8000, i believe.
and gary numan - down in the park.

Ignore the awful user-made videos for the first two.

Always like the sequenced synth stabs in Quadrant Six's Body Mechanic:

Depeche Mode - Damaged People. Lead synth during choruses, starts at .57 seconds. This is the instrumental version. Amazing synth work, great video.

Very few mentions of classic light-weight synth-pop songs so far. Is there something embarrasing about synth-pop ? Come on guys, show us your inner pop-nerd! I'll go first: Just Can't Get Enough. Hm, I think that's a MOOG Prodigy Vince is playing the lead riff on. Not 100% sure though...
Art is not a copy of the real world. One of the damn things is enough.
I've seen Vince playing the riff on a Roland SH-1 in some old video but I don't think he used one on the studio version.gfriden wrote:Very few mentions of classic light-weight synth-pop songs so far. I know that he used a Jupiter 4 at the time--and possibly he still used the Kawai 100F ("Just can't get enough" was recorded in Aug '81)-- so I'd say with 99% certainty that one of those does the riff.
I think Andy Fletcher was playing the Moog Prodigy (and Martin Gore used a Yamaha CS-5) but afaik it was mostly used as a bass synth on Speak & Spell.

Didnt andy play a moog source? Or was that around the time of a Broken Frame?Micke wrote:I've seen Vince playing the riff on a Roland SH-1 in some old video but I don't think he used one on the studio version.gfriden wrote:Very few mentions of classic light-weight synth-pop songs so far. I remember seeing a few videos of them playing speak and spell songs where andy has a source.
No one cares, no one sympathizes,
so you just stay home and play synthesizers.

Andy used the Prodigy on Speak & Spell but around the time it came out he got the Source and used that live and on Broken Frame.
And it probably is the Jupiter or maybe 100F doing the just cant get enough riff.

Yes, Andy did use a Moog source live and in the studio but that was sometime after Speak & Spell was recorded.Joey wrote:

Around 4:26 it's Electronic Battle Weapon 6 by the Chemical Bros which was a 12" only release for DJ's and has the most bad a*s analogue synth rhythm that keeps twisting and building up with cutoff and resonance like a demon

Crispy Bacon by ole Laurent is another filthy bassline apparently a JD800!
The most bad a*s techno track ever with a chilling anthem that still sends shivers down my spine especially at 6:05

Another old school techno classic!
