Your first Synthesizer!

My first synth was a Moog Rogue which I purchased in 1982.

Pretty certain it was new.

Yamaha SY-1. Didn't know s**t about synths back then. Loved the creamy sound and the aftertouch.

Korg Poly800 and then shortly after a Juno 106. Liked the sound of the Poly800 but didn't get around to program it much because of the user interface. The Juno 106 thought me the basics and I love it for that. It's still sad to admit I sold them both a few years ago

more microkorgs. I've mentioned this a thousand times, but one more can't hurt. It was summer 2001, I needed something that could do "psychedelic blips and blops", and opted for the microkorg cause it was small and had knobs

I paid (converted to current US dollars) $1200 for the thing, + another 100$ for the gig bag. They did have a Nord for the same price, but I did like the size of the MK, + the vocoder totally blew me away (as I knew nada about synths). Didn't even realize that you could program your own sounds undtil maybe 2-3 years later on, after talking to another keyboardist who told me our music was cool, but I should program some better sounds.. I was told about VSE, and I've been a synth-head ever since. thank you VSE, for opening my mind, and curses for draining my wallet way too fast

oh, still have the MK, no point in selling it for a 4th of waht I paid for it.. Besides, I've made some very nice ambient sounds with it when run through the revese delay on my DD-6 and my holy grail reverb..

I'm still new to the game really. I bought a Yamaha DX100 two years ago and this is my first and only synth! Hoping to acquire a Roland Juno-D at some point too.

Roland D50 in 1989.

I had a Fender Rhodes allready before, but it doesn't count as a synth.

Ensoniq SQ1+ in '93 or '94, I think.

A Roland SH2 in 1980. It's still here and with a Kenton Pro2 strutting it's stuff.

Casio CZ5000, about 1988. I really wanted an ESQ-1 but it was too much $$$ and the CZ was similar enough (8-voice, on board sequencer) to entice me for $400 used.

Yamaha DX-7 in '87 or so. My dad brought one home and I instantly fell in love with it. I was 10 years old or so.

Had an ESQ-1 for awhile and a Mirage. Then a SY77 followed by an EX7. Got out of the synth game for awhile and got hooked on Hammond organs. My first new synth purchase in 10 years is my new Voyager.

I had some crappy digital casio's in the mid 80's but my 1st real synth was a Yamaha SY-2. I went into a piano store and asked if he had anything that was analog or old.He pulled the sy-2 out of a back room and a wurlitzer comb organ.

hahahhahaha oh man im like an early 2006 model of you it was about two years ago (24yrs old or so) when i decided that i didnt want to play guitar anymore and finally do what it is that i truely love (production beat making etc.) and now i feel like im too old sometimes but i know that isnt true there is plenty of lyfe for a producer!!

oh i forgot my first keyboard was a rompler which i still own and will always own (micro X) my first synth was a microkorg.

L. Cohen was 34 when he released his 1st record....

The lead guy from morphine was in 40's....

Chuck D, claimed to be an old man when he start out.
