Well, at the risk of duplicating what folk've said, the SH is a bit beefier than the CS but the CS has a tingliness to it - and has different filter modes, which is very useful. I've not used an MS-10, so won't comment. Depends on if the interfacing would be useful, as well as (naturally) whether the sound is right for you. The CS would be cheapest, then the SH, then the MS, at least by prices I've seen. The MS, depending on where you are, might be twice the price of the CS-10 and for that, you could have the 2-osc CS-15.

I'd have to say the SH09, its a lovely synth. I've had a couple, the last one I sold was to a guy in SPain, original box and manual, it was sexy as h**l.

The filter is just so nice and it has just enough functions to make it a litle more than basic but not too much to make it too complicated.

It's one of those synths, like the Minimoog, that almost everything you do on it sounds "right". A great buy and certainly one of my favourite cheap mono-synths.
You always want just one more Synth!

i think im going to stray from my OP and say ive just about decided on the sh-101. it seems to have all the sounds i want. i like the interface as opposed to the ms2000 i used to have, and most notably it can be worn with a strap on stage.

plues they are dead sexy vintage analog goodness at a good price. =P~

For indie rock, id take the SH-09 over an SH-101. Sure, the 101 has more features but from my experience, the SH-09 cuts through and stands out better in this style. Iv used the SH-09 in an indie rock band and my friend plays a 101 in an indie band and my SH-09 is far more fat n dirty. Its that filter, same one as in the jupe4 n its Rolands finest imo.

I wouldn't take the MS-10, personally. For a modular synth, I think I'd prefer a slightly bigger model.

haha.... no offense, but if you've never used any of them, why even chime in? #-o

Why not? It's still an opinion.

I just bought an SH-09, my first analogue. Great little machine. Compact form and nice sounds. The external audio input is fun too, I've been running my VAs throught its filter. I think its one of those synths that has "character".
