yea, the virus shelf was an afterthought...just added it about a month ago (built the desk almost two years ago)...RobotHeroes wrote:Nice. You gave me an idea the way your monitor shelf looks flat for the monitor but slanted in the front for your "viri". My audio interface could go in the gap under them and maybe a patchbay too.
Good thinking on that monitor/module shelf man.
Thanks... 8) When I saw it I knew it was the desk for me, because at one point I was very close to buying one of these and that would have cost me a pretty penny. This solution only cost a few hundred for the desk and the racks, and I get just about the same workspace. I don't really care to have a keyboard controller at the computer, which is about the only thing I'm missing. All my boards are behind me.RobotHeroes wrote:That desk does look cool! From the angle it sort of looks like you could remove the drawers and turn them into racks. It might just be the angle though and the drawers might not be wide enough. The silver frame and those black drawers look pretty ace. Are they made of metal? The black racks match the drawers too.
Yeah, there is one particular Ikea desk, that I think is the Fredrick, that I had and traded to a friend of mine when we moved. I just went to their website, and it looks like the exterior shelves are no longer included, but maybe you can find them. When I got mine, I also got some shelves on swivels that were perfect for holding things like monitors and drum machines, and I mounted them on the outside of the vertical frame. It is all modular, so you can set the shelves to what ever configuration you want...otto wrote:I wouldn’t be so quick to shame Ikea. You can get solid wood desk tops and with some creativity you can really do a lot as far as designing a custom desk with various ikea components. I’m sure many of you have seen the 19” studio racks people have made with a bed-side table. I am going to finish most of my basement in the upcoming months and part of the will be my personal office/studio/man-cave/whatever. I plan to take full advantage of ikea to design a good “studio” desk to hold all of my synths, computer and rack gear so I can get rid of my ugly 3-tier stand.
