Re: What was the worst synthesizer you've ever owned?
Where can I get me one of those TB505s? :bounce:Phollop Willing PA wrote:I disagree! While I had one, it was for mainly backup of songs, not acid related. The limited memory was the main reason I upgraded to a 505. I found it very useful for my stuff, which falls closer to rock done synth style, a bit of funk and blues. If it wasn't for the 303, I wouldn't have been able to do the amount of gigs I did that year I first bought it. It does demand some work for the way I used it.Computer Controlled wrote:Well, if you're buying a 303 or x0xb0x for anything else OTHER than Acid, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Unless you're just using the sequencer.otto wrote:I have not had a 303 but did the x0xb0x thing and felt the same way. I guess I get the whole great for acid thing but that’s about all it does well and if you’re not into acid, well…
The acid thing, though I wasn't using much that way, is easy to do. The song thing, a bit harder...
These comments are only about the 303 since I don't have any experience with the other x0xb0x thing.

Heh, damn, i was gonna say something, but gave you the benefit of the doubt =o] Yeah, the MCheese303 is worthless. Even more so than the Kawais!

Re: What was the worst synthesizer you've ever owned?
about the only thing i have really hated over the years is the Roland D2, because it was so completely impossible to use. looked cool, though. the MC-307 i had was equally bewildering, but it had some good sounds, i suppose. neither is a standalone synth per se, but those are the only two that really frustrated me.
just about every synth i've owned has had its uses; can't really say anything too bad about any of them. i loved my K4, right up until the day it died, and i sold it for parts (this was before i knew a thing or two about what goes on under the hood). i have a K1, but i haven't made more than a handful of patches. it's not the greatest, but it's perfectly usable for me. and i must always defend the MS2k/mK -- wonderful synths that can do so much but cost so little!

If only they had made a K4m.

Re: What was the worst synthesizer you've ever owned?
Sorry for the late reply to this, but I totally disagree as well. I love my fr-revolution, use it almost all my tunes and I definitively wouldn't consider it acid. I mean, yeah, no doubt it's limited, but regardless it's a cool sound that fits in well lots of places.Computer Controlled wrote:Well, if you're buying a 303 or x0xb0x for anything else OTHER than Acid, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. The Revo sounds nothing like a 303 or an x0xb0x.

what?! sure, they don't sound identical, but to say a Revo sounds nothing like a 303 is ridiculous. they sound quite similar.Computer Controlled wrote:The Revo sounds nothing like a 303 or an x0xb0x.

the 303 doesnt sound like a 303
there is so much hype around it that it is bigger than the 303 itself is
its like when charlie chaplin came in third in a charlie chaplin impersonation contest

No one cares, no one sympathizes,
so you just stay home and play synthesizers.

Re: What was the worst synthesizer you've ever owned?
evolution evs 1 - nice concept but poor cheap sound.
It is a "pure" synth , not dedicated to reproduce realistic "classic" instruments tones . It has a lot of synthesis modes (FM, phase distorsion , additive ) . With the software and a lot of coffe you can get some "great" sounds , either "analog" or "digital" . In additive synthesis mode it is possible to get "B3 style" sounds very easily .
But a major bug : there is only 20 user program memories ....and 80 awful factory patches! They could have done the opposite , in the factory sounds only 10 or 20 are worth keeping....

Hmm, yes, and the Minimoog doesn't sound like a Minimoog, and the 2600 doesn't sound like a 2600.

Let's hear it then. The Revo sounds about as similar to a 303 as any other simple mono synth does. It isn't hard to get a generic 303 type sound from any synth. It isn't a tough sound to nail. So really, ANY synth sound sound quite similar.
