Thanks for the scans. I am now working with them in terms of image processing to get them cleaned and down to a small filesize.

So now all you DX7 (and S and II) owners, go off and LEARN your synthesizer
Then make your own brass and el.piano patches instead of complaining about the overuse of the factory sounds
Actually, one of the first chapters shows you how to change the preset EL.PIANO1 sound into something more interesting.

Big thanks for the scans... has been good tooling around (but with purpose) with the DX7 algos in my G2.
Only got up to the additive bit near the front of the patching guide tho.

Hi Katy, This question is for Nick Rhodes. I am reading a bio on INXS. Producer Nick Launay sights the Yamaha DX 7 synthesizer first produced in 1983 as the most influential instrument of the 80’s. He claims that out of the first two of these synthesizers ever produced in Japan literally right off the factory line INXS received the first one and the second one was given to Duran Duran. Any truth to his statement? Thanks. Jan
“No truth I am afraid. I’ve never owned one or ever used a DX 7 on any of our records. I would not deny their influence on every one else’s records - which is precisely why I didn’t want to use one. NR”

Re: The Complete DX7 by Howard Massey
Well there you go. Nick Rhodes had access to the uber-awesome Fairlight CMI system, guess he didn't need to use the "lowly" synths everyone else did at the time
Since hardly anyone knew how to program their DX7, you'd end up with the same presets used on every single album throughout the 80's. They should all have read THIS book.

Direct emulation of most dx7 parameters - loads actual .syx files from DX7. Reasonably accurate by some accounts.
Works well in tandem with scans.

I also saw NR giving the DX-7 a slating on that synth program (on youtube I think)... but I didn't actually agree with what HE was saying, but found what Stuart Price was saying to be far more open minded (and true) about ditching the cheese and getting into what FM can do - if you are a real synth nut.ronP wrote:oo

Re: The Complete DX7 by Howard Massey
Damn straight. The DX7 generally doesn't sound too fantastic dry (aside from the infamous basses), but it's certainly one of these instruments that, thankfully, takes to effects really well.Pro5 wrote:I didn't actually agree with what HE was saying, but found what Stuart Price was saying to be far more open minded (and true) about ditching the cheese and getting into what FM can do - if you are a real synth nut.
