So then Synthheads: in your opinion what are the big 3's worst Synths?

Just off the top of my head from what I've used:

Roland D-5
Korg Poly 800 (also didn't like the MicroKorg, but can see the appeal)
Yamaha FB-01

Awful.

The Roland has probably just dated badly, but even in the early 90s I thought it was a bit c**p. The Korg was too plasticky and did one good sound, maybe two, and they both sounded alike. The Yamaha wasn't even a synth, just a doorstop that made really bad noises.

That's a heavy one. It's difficult to find any "worst" synth, previous suggestions were for "budget" synthesizers, that were cut down so the price would be affordable to enthusiasts.
However, when you think about price vs. build quality vs. features:

Yamaha: VL1 - the price tag that was really devastating, which was later proven with PLG-VL and VL70m (latter especially with Patchman ROMs)
Korg: OASYS - time has proven that it was a mouse in the skin of an elephant. Promising design... that nobody wanted...
Roland: U-50... erm, D-70, an idea how to foul up the most promising design (later proven in JD series - design, not the idea).

I'm not being serious, but I'm wondering how long it will take this thread to devolve into a pissing match.

korg poly800, n series, extreme, triton series.. ive had my share of those..
yamaha... dunno.. havent used that much..
roland juno d junog , most recent small romplers.. terrible sound.. sh201 definitely the worst

The worst 3 from the big ones are the ones you paid over the odds for on ebay, then they arrived in pieces with no chance of a refund :lol:

Yamaha: they never did it with the "groovy" boxes or dance-oriented desktops, except the RS 7000 wich is a cool sampler.

Korg: their rompler series like someone said. IMO Triton classic is one of the most boring synths I ever played.
Thin and plastic sound.

Roland. After the V synth, I haven't seen anything interesting from them.....
