Because they each have different synthesis function and sound.Umbe78 wrote:I'd add to this thread "Why buy/have more than 5 synths?"
OK, scratch that. Only get 5 synths. Spend the rest of the coin on effects processors!

cheers,

Re: Why buy hardware synths?
You buy hardware synths because if you kept posting re-arranged studio pics and had nothing new everyone would think you were a twat.

Knobs and sliders! Knobs and sliders!
Mod ribbons mod ribbons switches and gliders!
Because my synths (except for the Fusion
) don't crash in the middle of a song.
Lots of LEDs and LCDs instead of fan noise.
No license keys, popups, driver issues, or mysteriously reset audio parameters.
No dropouts, glitches, pops, stuck notes, volume problems.
Mice and keyboards are not inspirational control surfaces, and programming a control surface is not fun.
Taking a picture of a desktop is dorky. Taking a picture of a bunch of synthesizers makes me feel manly.

Gear List: A bunch that go 'WHHONNGG!', several that go 'tweedle tweedle' and 'thumpity', and a few that don't make any noise at all but have lots of delightful little lights on them.

Because hardware synths sound so much better then fake a*s emulators and soft synths. Plus you get more of the "hands on feel" with hardware, can't get that with abelton live or logic.

I've never had more than 4...currently 2 and that's plenty for a lightweight like meUmbe78 wrote:I'd add to this thread "Why buy/have more than 5 synths?"

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

I've played software synths that sounded better than my Yamaha CS2x and this fact shatters your statement into pieces. What you're saying is too general. Some software synths sound better than some hardware.Because hardware synths sound so much better then fake a*s emulators and soft synths.
I'd say software and hardware are different instruments of the same family, like trumpets and tubas. There are some trumpet players who never play tubas and there are some synth players that have no interest in software. You don't argue that trumpets sound better than tubas unless you talk about specific models, do you?
