GAS --- Just bought 2 new pieces... POLYMORPH & SIDSTATION
The polymorph was a hard f*cking piece of hardware to track down. BUT It's incoming and should be on my doorstep today. And the sidstation I just purchased should be here in a few days. Should be a good addition to the mix!
EDIT: Oh and also ordered an EH Cathedral Reverb Pedal incoming with the polymorph. Good times.

I got a Polymorph a few months ago and it was TOTALLY WORTH the effort I put into tracking it down. By far the easiest, most rewarding sequence-oriented box I own. The DSI Evolver, MS2000R, and Radias R were mere detours on the road I took to this piece of German wizardry. Call me a dork, but the fact that the presets are primarily Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream sequences (or soundalikes of such) just called to me.

Gear List: A bunch that go 'WHHONNGG!', several that go 'tweedle tweedle' and 'thumpity', and a few that don't make any noise at all but have lots of delightful little lights on them.

I've had mine since about 2000 or 2001. I sold it only because I found the black Klaus Schultz edition with Moog style knobs. Love the Polymorph. Nothing sounds like it. And it's one rewarding box like Cap says. I almost bought a Spectralis because of this box, but heard it takes a while to wrap your head around and I love this one too much to get rid of. It's my own cult classic! Love this box.
Let me know if you need any help understanding it. I know the Polymorph inside and out.
Nice 2 pickups. Those should compliment each other nicely!

First and foremost... wow... that's all I can say. Besides the Oberheim M1K's I own in group mode, this is my first real step outside what i would consider pro quality gear. Or just great gear rather. I've moved up from the electribe and the microkorg. Those both served their place very well, but i've been using those for about 4 years now.
Once i wrap my head around this one, I must then move on to the SID and then I'm curious ... for a downtempo style of trip-hop and the maybe some glitch electro for the bigger live shows, what am I missing now? SH 101? Moog? Next on my list i think is an XT or a Nord Modular G1. Then a monophonic for some baselines... but I dunno, this polymorph and the sid may have me covered. I've got the MPC w/ Goldbaby samples thanks to JSRockit's referral in a thread. So I don't need any more percussion atm.
Again... wow... this Polymorph just sounds f^cking insane. I'll send you some messages STICKYGUM about some questions I have. It came w/ the manual which is cool, but it's in German or French. But the sounds OMFG the souuuunds I <3 it. I must contribute ALL my thanks for this new purchase to the WTB forums here on VSE. Thank you.

Can someone make some nice quality mp3 demos of the Polymorph please?

I'm guessing that's cause they aren't sequence-oriented boxes, they're rack synths with mod sequencers.CapnMarvel wrote:I got a Polymorph a few months ago and it was TOTALLY WORTH the effort I put into tracking it down. Well, so is the Polymorph! It has a mod sequencer, too. I guess I'm missing what you're trying to say here.Stab Frenzy wrote:I'm guessing that's cause they aren't sequence-oriented boxes, they're rack synths with mod sequencers.CapnMarvel wrote:I got a Polymorph a few months ago and it was TOTALLY WORTH the effort I put into tracking it down. I didn't mention that the Korgs both also sounded c**p to my ears (the Evolver sounds great but I like it better in the MEK architechture). And no, it's not user error.

I love my Sirius, but I believe the Polymorph is a step up in synthesis options? I'd love to try one!
Re: GAS --- Just bought 2 new pieces... POLYMORPH & SIDSTATION
I never got to play with any Quasimidi gear... But i spend a lot of time with my sidstations.
One of the most magical pieces of gear i ever had. The SID filter distorts in all sorts of ways. It has a lot of filter types, the lfos have a lot of options too. You can use the wave sequencer for each of the oscillators.
Spend some time with it. The filter lacks resonance, but it's minor since the filter has lots of character.
Sloppy envelope timing can be worked around with the built-in gate. Sloppy is great for some things, though.
Don't forget poly mode!

Haha, you know I always use the VSE museum to look up synths of interest and for the longest time the Polymorph just kept slipping by my eye, I thought all of quasimidi's stuff was Techno oriented, then i saw the polymorph and its basically downtempo electro box. Thus the search began, and that my friends is a long hard search.
I saw the "Polymorph presets" video on youtube, and it won me over. Regret not buying one of these synths. For it is a king!

The Polymorph sequencer is a lot more complex than the sequencers in the Evo or the MS2000 (haven't spent much time with a Radias), it has mutes, pattern switches etc. If you were after something like the Polymorph to begin with it's not surprising that you didn't find what you wanted in the other ones.CapnMarvel wrote:I guess I'm missing what you're trying to say here.

Yah you know, I'm breaking open the shell to this thing's sequencer and it's extremely powerful. And beyond all its intuitive. It's good enough as a standalone and accompanied by another box w/ your favorite sound.

Re: GAS --- Just bought 2 new pieces... POLYMORPH & SIDSTATION
That's what I've been preachin' for the longest time. It's funny, when anyone ever has a 'favorite synth' thread I always list my Polymorph along with my Sunsyn. But I've never seen the Polymorph get any love from many other people. Probably because of trends with other groovey flavor of the week gear.Afamily wrote: Again... wow... this Polymorph just sounds f^cking insane. The Polymorph is a powerhouse. Much easier than the Spectralis, no analog filter, but tons of character and the filters are awesome. The Sequencer on this is quite unique and sequencers can trigger other sequencers and you can just modulate the c**p out of each step of the sequence. I guess I never go into great detail about the Polymorph because I know what a hidden gem the Polymorph is to me. Have you ever heard any other synth like this? I haven't. I have a Quasar too, which I like, but it's more of a preset box. I had the 309 and Sirius, but felt the Polymorph was the strongest Quasimidi product on the market.
Glad to hear it hits the spot.

Had the Polymorph for awhile, and though it's definitely easier to navigate around than the Spectralis, its sound just lacks the beefy analogesque punch of the Speckie. I own the Spectralis 2 now and it is THE expansive (and expensive) complicated, astral, sonic spaceship of the decade. However, I did one little ditty with the Polymorph when I owned it that I think sounds decent: http://mp3unsigned.com/showmp3.asp?mp3id=52437
I miss the Polymorph sometimes, but when I turn on the Speckie, the sound just dominates everything else I have ever owned.
