Psyche - Tangerine Dream inspired ambient

Post by b3groover » Sun Nov 15, 2009 10:38 pm

Here's another track from my upcoming release, In Memorandom. This song was inspired by Tangerine Dream's seminal recording Rubycon, which I loved as a kid. I used to listen to that album over and over again under headphones, wondering how they made all those great sounds and trying to emulate it on my DX7!

The main arpeggio is the ATC-x sequenced by my SY77's pattern sequencer. The various weird sounds are the ATC-x being cycled through presets while holding down a note! :) Strings are from the Wavestation. Other various weird sounds are a combination of another ATC-x track, the SY77, and some Yamaha EX5r.

Very nice track !!
Indeed it's fitting in the old TD style, but with more peaceful sounds if I may call those that way (not as "raw" as the mid-70ies TD). But as fine; well done !

Thank you! At one point I had a Mellotron string sample going through a phaser over the top, but I thought that was too much. A tribute, yes... a re-creation / parody, no! :)

I like it a lot.

I would like it even better if you could stretch it a little bit, if it would build itself slower... right now it feels a bit compact/busy.

You could maybe consider a longer edit, as a bonus

Very nice, anyway.

Thank you for listening!

Zarith, I hear what you're saying. In the context of the other tunes on the record though I think the length is good. I actually shortened it from its original length! :)

Tangerine Dream tributes are never overdone and always a welcome listening experience. Good stuff. I too am a big Rubycon fan. I clicked on your link though, Thunderglow is very cool - love the marimba type sounds with the rhodes. Beautiful.

Thanks for the comments, everyone! Those who have heard this upcoming CD (mainly my brother and a few friends) have commented that this is one of their favorite tracks on the record.

I'm excited and proud to release this one.

Thank you!

In Memorandom is now shipping. Only 38 copies left. Not sure if I'll put it up on iTunes or not since a lot of work went into making the album a "whole" instead of just a collection of individual tracks.
