Re: musikmesse 2010 Frankfurt
that demo of the octatrack is pretty weird. would've rather seen an entirely sample based MDUW mkIII.

Sometimes those "show" demos are dodgy. I usually find that eventually someone comes along and does a better job of it. It is a nice looking unit even if what was coming out of it sounded pretty whack.
BTW I think you are stuck in OH somewhere near me.

Re: musikmesse 2010 Frankfurt
If that video Is from someone in the media who's just tooling around that's cool. But if that person is in any wAy affiliated with elektron it will be one more video that puts serious doubt in the minds of potential buyers that it's well, only good for c**p 'experimental c**p' like that.
I have confidence that there must be something better in that box than what a free plug in from KVR could do.
I just see a trend where the sequencer has a few tricks up it's sleeve ( that seem to come from too many awkward button presses) and the sound is always crappy. A dedicated sampler could remedy that and cause a much bigger stir. I'd like to what the engine can do with the samples besides trigger them in pitch and glitch effects

I just upgraded to a MKII UW as well and this +Drive is whatever. It isn't expanding your ROM memory anyway and you are still working with 2.5 mb except you can swap what is in there with a different "snapshot". If it also added USB that would've been rockin'.Sir Ruff wrote:all this after having just bought a MD UW mkii! (though maybe I'd be eligible for the discount?)Syn303 wrote:6000 ROM samples, 128 snapshots, whoaaaa
Hmmm what is the +drive upgrade gonna cost though i wonder?
Time to get an email off to those folks at Elektron for that info.
I would rather just get an Octatrack and keep percussion samples in the UW. Depending on what the Octatrack ends up offering that is. As it is now it would be great to sample and loop the UW and MnM and then switch patterns on either machine and mix them in. Sure you can do that with the UW now but the Octatrack would free up machines on it.

Accelerometers are really cheap these days, I think this is a good thing. If it was on a stand and you could give it a little shake to add a touch of vibrato or modulate the filter a little bit or whatever then that would allow for much more expressive playing. I bet you $10 that Trent Reznor's eyes lit up when he saw that, it's just the kind of thing your average industrial stage-show synthesist wants.Gianni wrote:Motion sensor WTF?!
When you think about how this will let you bend a note in the same way a guitarist can by just moving the guitar in space it's pretty amazing. I don't think it was designed to do big pitch bends by tipping it up 45 degrees like in the video, they just did that to show how it worked.

Re: musikmesse 2010 Frankfurt
I'm just suprised someone made a polyphonic analogue synth and it's being passed over for a hand held toy from korg. Yes, that's getting more attention than a polyphonic synth on vintage synth explorer.
Pretty shocking with all the genius product direction talk floated constantly on VSE.

Accelerator isn't analogue. Also the Korg toy is way more vintage-esque than a keyboard with an accelerometer in it.

Re: musikmesse 2010 Frankfurt
I'm reading that it uses the hybrid technology from the spectralis. Half analogue half dsp. Are you saying it's totally digital/ dsp? I want to see where it says there's no analo-- oh dear. There's not as much to get excited about if it's that close to a virus or bloefeld or (griffin avid faints with shame)...

I know for a fact that the Elektron will be purchased by me. I have been toying with the idea of an all Elektron set up, but with their lack of a dedicated sampler I have not bothered. I'm very excited about this, very excited.

I'm still a bit confused as to what KIND of sampler it is...wiss wrote:I have been toying with the idea of an all Elektron set up, but with their lack of a dedicated sampler I have not bothered.
EDIT: OK, so Matrixsynth described it as "Ableton Live in a box". I guess that's cool. But you can only have 8 loops playing at once?

Re: musikmesse 2010 Frankfurt
Yeah dude you've lost your mind. On the site it states digital filters and isn't the filterbank on the spectralis the analog part? There isn't a single instance of the word analog on the PDF neither. You crossed the streams or something.griffin avid wrote:I'm reading that it uses the hybrid technology from the spectralis. Half analogue half dsp.

Exactly what I thought when I saw it. Made me think it would be pretty good inspiration to make something exactly like that with M4L.matrixsynth wrote:Ableton Live in a box

Re: musikmesse 2010 Frankfurt
All of that was done to a Tee with Effectrix running inside Ableton as a demo at the last NAMM. Ableton tends to get all the credit when it's really the plug-in doing all the work. I'm still curious to Exactly it will handle the internal samples (browsing and storage capacity and kits/multis) and what the engine can do to shape the samples or fully blow them out.
