Re: The One(s) That Got Away
I bought a Memorymoog in 1995 using my friend's credit card for $1100. After a few months, I was unable to come up with money to pay him back so I sold it for $1400.

Re: The One(s) That Got Away
Well on the lighter side, I got a good deal a few months ago that "got away" from at least someone else, while on tour with the band we stopped into a pawn shop for the h**l of it in St' John New Brunswick. I was the last one into the shop and I'll never forget the look on my friends face, "Greg they got a JUPITER 8!" I ran through the store and yelled "i'm buying it!" and found out it was only $1500 and physically in pretty good shape. Every day I wake up to it right there, ohh its a good feeling. And come to think of it, I paid the same price for my JP8000 in '98

In 2002 I played with my first synthesizer in a pawn shop. It was a Jupiter 4, but I didn't have the $400 they were asking, nor did I know its true value.

Re: The One(s) That Got Away
found a tb-303 in a guitar shop fully working, just gathering dust in the store window. talked them down to $50. sold. didnt do much with it as all i had to hook it up to was a tr-606 (also bought for $50). 303 just stopped working one day although it would still turn on and the keys worked...just not the sequencer. sold it online for parts for $150 cause i needed to get my mixer fixed asap and i was broke. buyer got it fixed within an hour for like $15 worth of parts + labor
its not all bad though. i still have the mixer to this day and it works fine. a behringer

I feel so young haha.cornutt wrote:When I was in college (early '80s), a gal that my brother knew in Nashville offered to sell me her Minimoog for $300. But, well, I was a college student and I couldn't scrape that much cash together, and she wouldn't budge on the price.
Believe it or not, when I was doing my piano lessons when I was 11, I didnt know a damn thing about synths. My uncle, (who still has this Prophet 5) wanted to give it to me. I declined, because I didn't know a thing about it, and I already had a "piano". He still has it too, and wont give it up for the world now. That damn bastard haha.

I sold a mint Micromoog for about 400 USD because I was desperate for some cash and I hate myself for it to this day. Same story with an RE-201 space echo. f**k you world. I'm going to get drunk on red wine and make blurpy noises on my sk-1.
Moog LP + Casio SK1 and MT-75 + tube amp = good tone.

mc-202 about 3/4 years ago for £250, I decided it would cost a bit too much. This year I paid over £400 for one. Rubbish

Re: The One(s) That Got Away
I sold my TR808 (it still had the plastic cover) just before the dance thing kicked off. Some guy came up from London at about midnight and paid the 200 quid I was asking without quibbling about the price.
I was completely ignorant of its value and of the buyer. I knew he was Tim but I didn't know he was Tim Simenon until a couple of years later when he was interviewed in E&MM. And there was the 808 behind him in the picture.
I was happy though- I'd just bought a great TR626!

Re: The One(s) That Got Away
Could've bought a Prophet 08 keyboard version for 1000$ from a professional in my area selling off all his studio equipment.. At the time I did'nt know much about them, and I just maxxed my credit card on a Moog.
I kid you not, not even 30 minutes later, I shifted stuff around in my bank, went back (thinking if anything i could sell it again and make profit if i desperately had to) and within 30 minutes it was gone.

Onkloud9 always beat me to some great deal. The last one I remember was a kitten and a sq10, super cheap. I had it lined up but he sweet talked the guy into selling to him.
I did beat him on the 2600 tho!

Yeah, you got a great deal on that 2600! I did score my Hammond A100 from an estate-sale dealer for $275.guitarsandsynths wrote:Onkloud9 always beat me to some great deal. Re: The One(s) That Got Away
i had gotten a sequential circuits six trak like 2 years ago, really cheap, and NO wear this thing was f**k new - i think i got it for 150 or 200. im no analog fetishist but i loved it, and i really wasnt expecting much from it. i wasnt very responsible back then, had a s**t job and ended up selling the thing for some quick cash thinking "oh ill just buy it again later"...
last time i looked at ebay those vulture dealers were selling it between 4 and 5 hundo depending on the condition.

Re: The One(s) That Got Away
A CS-80. I can't remember what the exact price was when I was asked whether I would like to buy it 11 years ago, but it was about the price of a ROMpler on discount then. ca. 1000 euro?
My uncle used to store it in his house for his brother. I've also slept next to the same damn unit for about a year in total. Used to fold my clothes on it when going to sleep. I had very little idea what it was then - for years I thought it was an Electone or something.
