Re: Analog Bass Synth - which one?
yeah, the dark energy is controllable via midi or usb. pretty awesome. that's just direct midi/usb translation of control voltage to the VCO and gate to the ADSR though, controlling its filter is different, that's arranged via signal path of other CV output, ie LFO. ableton won't exactly be able to change the filter's cutoff, for example.
Re: Analog Bass Synth - which one?
uhm.. Ithought you could assign the cutoff to the mod wheel and then control it from ableton (or any other daw)..

Studio Electronics SE-1 is nice, can get a SE-1x or do the resistor mod to the SE-1 if you need snappier envelopes. I really like mine, you want to talk about being able to rattle some walls, this thing goes super deep. I think it can be had for cheaper than an ATC too.

to what mod wheel? it'd have to be one that output a control voltage, and even then for ableton to control that there would have to be a midi-cv converter.f__p wrote:uhm.. Ithought you could assign the cutoff to the mod wheel and then control it from ableton (or any other daw)..

The Dark Energy's CV convertor has an output for mod wheel CV.space6oy wrote:to what mod wheel? it'd have to be one that output a control voltage, and even then for ableton to control that there would have to be a midi-cv converter.f__p wrote:uhm.. Anything that sends midi mod wheel info. You can plug in any midi keyboard or you could even just draw the mod wheel automation in Live.

Re: Analog Bass Synth - which one?
Since nobody voted for the ATC-1, Ill give it my support.
It sounds good.
I dont remeber it the SH-2 has VCF CV in, if it has thats a very good one.

How about 'any decent synth'?
Is there any reason why common 'full range' synths couldn't be used for basses?

Re: Analog Bass Synth - which one?
Some analogs that used early digital envelopes, the envelopes aren't quite as snappy as one usually wants for a bass.

Re: Analog Bass Synth - which one?
that's awesome, but i don't get it - is there a cv out jack on the dark energy specifically for the mod wheel message it receives via midi from the controller?Stab Frenzy wrote:Anything that sends midi mod wheel info. Roland SH-2/09 is great for this. I love the envelope response on these VCO bass machines.
cheers,

Re: Analog Bass Synth - which one?
Yes. And velocity, pitch wheel, note and gate. It's the same as the A-190-2 module.space6oy wrote:that's awesome, but i don't get it - is there a cv out jack on the dark energy specifically for the mod wheel message it receives via midi from the controller?Stab Frenzy wrote:Anything that sends midi mod wheel info.
