Synth settings for Don't you want me intro
Help please!
I'm trying to work out what settings are used to create the sound that you hear at the start of "Don't you want me?" by Human League i.e. the bassy intro bit. Is that a variation on a Roland preset or has someone managed to recreate it themeselves (and if so what settings do you use?). Cheers

I've read that it was a couple (if not more) of synths layered - fairly easy to recreate though. Try listening to the remix version from "Love and Dancing" to hear more of the patches in isolation - should help.

Yes exactly, that bit!
Re: Synth settings for Don't you want me intro
the Roland Jupiter 4 was used quite a bit on Dare. I've never used one, so I can't say if that part sounds Jupiterish or not though. Maybe someone else here has?
Re: Synth settings for Don't you want me intro
I'm not sure what synth they used for the intro bass-riff however I do know that the main bassline was played
on a Korg 770 (the same synth provided the thick bass on "Darkness").

Re: Synth settings for Don't you want me intro
I made a track for it a while back that nailed it pretty close and the secret is in fact to layer two sounds- one for the bass component and a two-osc patch an octave higher with the second oscillator tuned a fifth up. I did a piece about these kinds of layered bass sounds in the 5/06 issue of Keyboard Mag (super plug warning!): it's in my Steal This Sound book... which you could buy on Amazon

@Micke, good call and I agree. The 770 has those funky envelopes.

The bass line in the lower octave in mono is the Korg 770. The riff is played in harmony of fifths on 2 tracks panned left and right, played on the JP-4.davidpk00pa wrote:Yes exactly, that bit!
