Korg Trident vs expression pedal
I need some input here...
I just bought a Yamaha FC-7 expression pedal and trying to use it with a Korg Trident MK1.
It doesn't do much apart from lowering the volume halfway and does not change value when I press it.
I tried a foot switch instead just to see if the expession inputs were 'alive' and they work so...
And the FC-7 pedal works with some of my other synths ( Korg MS2000r Yamaha DX7, Alesis Micron... ).
I wanted to use it for the Trident specifically...
Am I missing something here?
Thanks.

Re: Korg Trident vs FC-7 expression pedal
Not all expression pedal circuits are designed the same way. Since the FC7 works OK with your other synths, sounds like the Trident just needs something different.
Do you have the Trident manual? What pedal does Korg say should be used?

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

The FC-7 should work with the VCF ins but I'd try a pedal with a 10K sweep for the 0-5v sockets. A Moog EP-2 or a Boss/Roland expression pedal or a DOD fx17.

Right, I just checked and it mentions the MS-01 pedal.meatballfulton wrote:Do you have the Trident manual? What pedal does Korg say should be used?
It sounds like I could have a hard time finding that.
I'll try the VCF in tonight when I get home... What's that supposed to do anyway?cryabetes wrote:The FC-7 should work with the VCF ins but I'd try a pedal with a 10K sweep for the 0-5v sockets. A Moog EP-2 or a Boss/Roland expression pedal or a DOD fx17.
As for other pedals, you're suggesting I should try them all? I might try to do some more research before going on a random buying spree

Thanks guys I feel less hopeless.

not particularly sure but they're labeled +/-5v on the back panel on the manual I found and that's what the FC7 is.
I'm saying any of the TRS expression pedals with a 10k pot for the others. M-Audio makes one too.

Well if you look here they're all +/-5v...cryabetes wrote:probably filter cutoff points innit?

I just tried it and nothing happens either.cryabetes wrote:The FC-7 should work with the VCF ins ..
I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the 10k though?cryabetes wrote:I'm saying any of the TRS expression pedals with a 10k pot for the others. M-Audio makes one too.
I might be stupid and/or tired... Maybe I should get some sleep and a shot of Jagermeister.

Re: Korg Trident vs FC-7 expression pedal
The FC-7 is a resistive control pedal. It will not do voltage control. The Trident is looking for a voltage input of 0-5 volts to do the controlling. All the FC-7 does is change resistance.
The Yamaha FC-9, however, is a volume pedal but it will also output voltage for voltage control inputs like yours on the Trident.
You need an FC-9 pedal, not an FC-7.
In any case, the Jagermeister is a good idea.

Re: Korg Trident vs FC-7 expression pedal
Thanks, that cleared up my confusion. I'll have to hunt for a voltage control pedal then. They don't seem as common though... And yes Jagermeister is a usually a good idea.scottrod wrote:The FC-7 is a resistive control pedal. It will not do voltage control. Re: Korg Trident vs FC-7 expression pedal
I can confirm that my FC-7 perfectly works with my Sigma, I also have a Trident and will be able to check if it works with FC-7 next friday.

Re: Korg Trident vs FC-7 expression pedal
I got around and got an FC-9 pedal and it still does NOTHING but drop the volume halfway. The pedal works if i use it by passing the audio from the Trident to the input of the FC-9, like a guitar pedal. But not exactly what I had in mind.scottrod wrote:You need an FC-9 pedal, not an FC-7.

Re: Korg Trident vs expression pedal
Yeh, that's wierd. BTW what's that midi-retrofit on yours?

Re: Korg Trident vs expression pedal
The picture with the MIDI connector isn't mine. I'm guessing it's probably a MIDI-in kit...
