Easy to repair MS2000 chipped key? (pic inside)

Post by Jaxamillian » Tue Feb 07, 2012 10:14 pm

Hey all-

I'm thinking about picking up an MS2000 with a chipped key. How easy/cheap is it to fix a key with a chip in the middle, like so?

I'm not worried about cosmetics, just getting it covered and playability. Thanks.

Shouldn't be a big deal as long as the key retention prong isn't broken too.
syntaur.com has new replacement keys.
Here's a vid I made replacing a key, and I also had to reconstruct the retention prong on mine.

EDIT: After reading the original post again, yes I think you can salvage that key. What I might suggest is removing the key, putting some tape on the underside, and using a mix of ground up white plastic (maybe from other old broken keys) and epoxy to fill in the hole. Some sanding may be necessary. It won't be pretty, but it should be a lot less distracting during play.
