Also: 2 oscillators.
Seriously, what do you need two oscillators for in a compact monosynth?
What part of "unique and interesting waveform capabilities" don't you understand?
Oh, wait... was it because you need detuning because that makes it "fat?"

Yes, especially for my solo sounds I think one oscillator ends up sounding better (I haven't played a MiniBrute yet so I'm talking general monosynth here) like lets say I want to improvise and play something on an electric jazz set, one oscillator sounds feel better. It's more in a ''player'''s perspective here. And even if we talk about ''fat'' that's not that much a good thing, maybe people want to sound big so much that (especially synth players) that the mix gets too ''fat'' and the lightest purest sound becomes a lot more pleasant don't you think? And the MiniBrute seems like it can get big or more complicated with one oscillator anyway.Automatic Gainsay wrote:Also: 2 oscillators.

I hope the sales aren't going to go too good so that I can grab one at a store without a preorder and relatively soon.

Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth
From Mr Usson himself, this will be 1500 units for the first batch. The first production run is going to be 1000 units tho.
With the Ultrasaw, you can really approach the sound of two oscillators at unisson.especially for my solo sounds I think one oscillator ends up sounding better
The making of my modular... (ok it's in french, but the pictures are easy to understand !)

Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth
It sounds like Arturia have more than made up for having just one oscillator (not that I think this is a handicap) with the 'special' extra function controls. This was the impression I got from the SoS magazine review. One of the controls gives the effect of a second detuned oscillator. So it seems to be more than capable of this type of sound anyway. The reviewer also said that this was probably the most complex oscillator design they had ever seen outside of a modular monosynth. This thing needs a second oscillator like I need another arsehole.Automatic Gainsay wrote:Also: 2 oscillators.

Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth
On a different Minibrute thread today someone said YuSynth had said the initial run would be 1500 not 1000. All I know is Moog is shipping the Minitaur this week and they confirmed Novamusik should get theirs before the end of the month. I'm #31 on the list for the MInitaur and I know I'm between 25 and 30 for the Minibrute, and they are expecting 50 for each in their initial shipments.

Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth
The OSC designed the way it is covers almost all functions a 2nd OSC would ... save octave stacking and the sub can make up for quite a few of those scenarios .
Saw / Unison saw stacking
Sq sub + Pulse w PWM
straight sine that should track better than most of the self oscillating filters on option from other contemporaries thanks to the sub .
Some FM goodness on the triangle ( metalizer )
+ the audio in and my midi modded monotribe are going to be good interchangeable friends I think
Also neither here nor there ....
Being the synth was the brain trust of a very DIY minded designer I wouldn't be surprised if there may not be some very hackable things to do easily under the hood too ?

Don't you live in flyover country?
Actually going to Asheville would be pretty cool if I could organise a show there to partially offset the flights. I've only spent time in NYC and Ithaca when I've been to the States in the past.

is that the musiciansfriend deal? get 10 or 15 percent off but then wait an extra 3 months?Jabberwalky wrote:My musiciansfriend order, placed on 1/22/12 has an expected delivery date of July 6th now. I'm sad.
i keep watching this thing and want to buy it impulsively. really need a proper job before I do though... everything about it seems to make sense. no hidden features. i get so turned off from any feature that requires menu diving.

Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth
I imagine that the first production run of 1500 is already sold out on preorders and a lot of people who preordered have been pushed back to the second run, which will be out in July. I doubt we'll be seeing any on shop floors until the second run.
