There is also a V2 of the Jup-80, which I'm assuming is a firmware upgrade but I wouldn't put it past Roland to make it a paid hardware upgrade, for the 5 people who actually bought a Jup-80.

Re: Roland Jupiter-50 announced
A clear visual interpretation of what I think about these synths.

See I actually like physical modelling as a technique, but....anyone notice the Jup-80 kind of...sounds c**p?
I mean the physical modelling stuff is cool but It feels kind of worthless if it sounds cheesy as h**l and you're better off with a gigasampled library instead. The best thing it has going for it is the piano modelling but even then that's not really that mindblowing.

Re: Roland Jupiter-50 announced
The Physical modelling stuff on the Jupiter 80 sounds rather sterile and artificial. The VA synth engine in it sounds like a SH-201. There's too much menu diving on the J80 for programming it, and with the smaller (and likely non-touch) screen on the J50 i bet the menus are twice as deep.
The strings from AAS String Studio sound better and more usable- heck, the sampled strings on my M3 sound better... and the piano... well, I'd rather have the multi-gig sampled pianos on a KRONOS.

Why do every one but Roland understand what synthesizer people want? The target group they once aimed for.

Re: Roland Jupiter-50 announced
hmm, so what we get is a stripped down version of a synth that already had a stripped down interface, which as well as a lacklustre un-editable physical modelling engine gave us a stripped down synth engine pulled from a GAIA, spun off from a SH-201, which in turn was ultimately derived from the JP-8000 from the mid 90's intended as a sucessor to the original Jupiters from the 80's which Roland now say were meant to emulate acoustic instruments, is that about right?
Anyone interested? ..thought not.
Someone wake me up when they finally make a tweakers synth again. zzzz...

Re: Roland Jupiter-50 announced
"plus over 70 SuperNATURAL acoustic instruments"
I truly wonder how many of the typical Roland audience know about gigasampler'esque sample players and libraries that provide acoustic instruments that are 50x as big as what Roland has on offer.
"70 acoustic instruments" -> ok .. fair enough.. but 'SuperNATURAL'?

Re: Roland Jupiter-50 announced
I used to admire Roland but thesedays i have better things to do Jupiter 50 or whatever they call it this week, is it really what people want? you would think with the money they have producing something new and different would be the way to go, it seems not if like me you own a JP8 hold and own with pride ,if you must check out the Jupiter 80s and in time 50s in the bargain basket.

Re: Roland Jupiter-50 announced
At first view of the Jupiter-80, it looked like a successor to the V-Synth GT, without the V-Synth part. It SHOULD have been a new V-Synth, damnit! I pray they haven't given up on the V

Re: Roland Jupiter-50 announced
My guess is that the jup-50 is an attempt to recoup the R&D expenses on the jup-80 and try to get some ROI. I don't really see the 50 selling any better than the 80 did. As mentioned previously, I think you'll see these getting blown out at some point.
Re: Roland Jupiter-50 announced
I an believe they picked THAT guy to market me THAT synth.

Yes but a Jupiter by way of Uranus. Yeah, that was badcgren72 wrote:but guys, its a jupiter![]()

I'll just buy one of the 80x0's sometime and save a crapton of money.

CheckOutThisSUPAHNATURAL CLARINET
*sounds like a cheesy early 90's rompler, but drenched in reverb*
Only $4200aud
.
Oooh lets see all the actually good sounding kit I could get for that price.
1000 for a laptop.
500 for EastWest Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra: Gold
650 For Requiem Pro, The nicest Sampled choir I've ever heard.
800 for a nice pair of monitors (KRK rockit 8's maybe?)
700 ish for an edition of komplete (effects, compressors etc. As well as plenty of synths! every one of which sounds better than the one in the jup 80, convolution reverbs, amp modelling, pianos, EP's and Fm8 to give CS_TBL a rock hard boner)
For me I'd only need to spend 150 bucks on DAW's (Renoise 2.8.0 + Reaper 4).
400 or so for a decent interface and bang. It's actually very possible to set up a small home studio that will be able to make nearly every kind of music possible at a highly detailed level of realism (To the point 95% of people won't be able to tell that the drums, guitars, orchestras and choirs are not real) instead of buying a Jup 80. Take out the monitors and replace them with headphones and you could get a nice weighted controller in there too.
Now I know that might sound like a bad comparison because the JUP 80 is supposed to be some live performance tool, but really? when the f**k was the last time you needed a sweet clarinet sound live? argh! I'd rather gig with the laptop and a controller. Or a muse receptor or something. They're all still cheaper option!

They really should not be allowed to soil the good name of Jupiter like that!
