The synth-pr0n thread.
Happened to be nerding out today looking here and there, and happened upon this bloke's flickr page; (whom also is a muff resident, and evidently an all-around cracking synth technician) -- so I thought I'd share.
Loads of serious history in these photos.

This Modcan system is pretty epic. And sexy. And expensive.

Dig the h**l out of the mid-century appeal your studio has. The JP8080 looks strangely out of place, however.

I doubt it can be assumed that Joel is not a synth nerd - regardless of whether you enjoy his output or not. I certainly hope he puts that thing to good use.Bitexion wrote:

That is sick! I really dig Joel's music, personally. Like his attitude, too.Bitexion wrote:

Another funny DM video. Playing the castlevania theme on all his modular synths via MIDI
Gear p**n for sure.

Re: The synth-pr0n thread.
Sweet! Thanks for posting those. I wonder if he's relegated the hardware polys to live use only, since I can't see them anywhere in the pics.silikon wrote:![]()

Re: The synth-pr0n thread.
I asked Joel about the polys last time he livestreamed a couple days ago. They're sitting in storage at the moment due to lack of studio space. He used to have the JP-6 in front of the computer, but now there's a new mixing desk there instead.
I hope the ARP2600 and EMS Synthi gets some love too behind all those spangly modulars.
His studio is getting close to the Starship Enterprise Command Deck. And now he's working out plans to take some of that modular gear on the road, instead of just having them sit alone at home when he's out touring.

How often does he livestream anyway? And what time is he usually on? I've only ever seen the archives of them.Bitexion wrote:I asked Joel about the polys last time he livestreamed a couple days ago. Re: The synth-pr0n thread.
No regular schedule, just when he feels like it, it seems. Follow @deadmau5 on twitter, he always announces it there.
He takes input via facebook and twitter while streaming. And strangely, my questions always get answered even though he has 1.2 million twitter followers
Sometimes he's in a composing mood and just messes around with synths and ableton until something musical comes out. Other times he's streaming Diablo 3.
If I had gear like that, I'd love to talk about it too, of course.
