Cool! that's something I'd like to have a go at.
Re: Synth Junkies Who're Guitar Junkies Too
It really wasn't too bad. The layout that I based it off of was on this page: http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=22.0
It took me about 15-20 hours of soldering and a few hours of research to build the 5e3. I fugure the 5e1 will only take me a few hours.

wow, even my head could probably get round that, ha. Might look into doing something like that when I have a few minutes. Cheers for that link.

Its not too expensive either as long as you don't mind looks. The metal chassis cost around $70 if I remember correctly, and the transformers were probably 100 for both. You could probably find used transformers fairly easily, and make up a chassis, and keep the project under 250 (US) dollars easily. I use an eminence 1258 for a speaker. I want a weber for my next build. One speaker is plenty for an amp of this size.
If you do build, make the wiring as pretty as possible, and wind when needed. It will keep ground noise lower. Mine isn't too bad, but could be better. That is another awesome thing about the knight. It is the least hummy tube amp I've heard, with nice breakup and decent volume.
I haven't played guitar very much in the last years. I bought a cheap project guitar recently to have some fun with and experiment. It will be nice to get back into playing

Wouldn't say I was a guitar junkie - just a victim of 3 years of folk! Forgotten what model RG the Ibanez is and no idea why the Epiphone has a Gibson truss rod cover? But they both sound pretty good with the right amp.

epiphone was bought out by gibson in 1957. pretty sure they're all that way, if not since at least currently.

if you're talking about my 66, yeah, it's very nice. aside from the pickups being very hum-sensitive.cgren72 wrote:That Fender Mustang really catches my eye. I uesd to want one bad. Is it pretty nice?

yeah im sorry about that lack of detail space6oy, Its a tired morning.
I used to have a '67 silvertone that was really hum-sensitive. It was very nice for what it did though. The guy that sold it to me said that he needed the money to buy an SG for punk. In my mind, he already had the perfect punk guitar.

That is a pretty nice looking SG. I like how its the same color as his neck and face because of the lighting.
I just cleaned up a crappy First Act. It was $22 and plays suprisingly well, so I had to buy it. I always liked having a crappy guitar around that I don't have to worry about. Someone spray painted the neck and fretboard, so I sanded it off and conditioned the wood. I plan on changing the pickup soon too. It has a single humbucker.
Has anyone wired a pickup directly to the jack? I don't use the pots much, so I wondered what it would sound like without. I could just try it, but I figured I'd ask first.

Re: Synth Junkies Who're Guitar Junkies Too
i haven't but if it's just running through a volume knob and not a tone adjustment PCB it probably won't make much difference. wouldn't be able to turn it down a hair for some pedals' cooperation though (ie zvex fuzz factory/probe).

Re: Synth Junkies Who're Guitar Junkies Too
In the last few years I've switched from primarily being a synth/studio/electronic music production sorta guy to focusing on guitar and live stuff. Here's the core of my rig:

Here's one of my favorite mods:

The pickup is mounted on rails so it can slide between different positions, and my buddy and I welded a hose clamp from a Mitsubishi's turbo onto the bridge for sustain. There's also a contact mic on the bridge with it's own separate output.

Always consider the source.
