CV Gate converters??
okay, I tried searching this on several sites as well as google.
Essentially I am trying to get a Roland SH09 to play nice with my other gear. Which includes a lot of Moog stuff and a couple Doepfer Dark Energy boxes.
Unfortunately the Roland wants 7.5v for it's gate, while everything else I got tops out at 5v.
I tried doing crazy stuff liek running the gate through a clean boost pedal. But apparently those specifically do not pass DC, which a gate signal pretty much is.
It works fine in the other direction of course, the roland gate will trigger most of my other stuff just fine, being that it's going "downhill". I do worry a wee bit that the extra 2.5 volts may be a bit much for my delicate noise boxes.
Is there some well known workaround for going "uphill"?
Or is there a box I gotta buy?
Please tell me I m just using daft search terms and such a box does exist.
I can live with Roland/Korg sync issues, it just makes my X0X play twice as fast.
But the no trigger stuff is kind of a bummer. I can imagine all kinds of fun stuff I could do with the gate, CV, filter and the LFO/Envelope switch. If only I could kick over that gate!

Re: CV Gate converters??
I have seen modules that can multiply CV/gate signals (I had a dotcom unit that could do 0-200%).
I have not seen a standalone box that can do this.
Try asking over at Muff Wigglers.

Re: CV Gate converters??
I am sure there is a solution in eurorack land. I am actually trying to avoid going modular right now.
First it is kind of a weird trendy thing right now which I don't understand.
second I am a total gear w***e with no self restraint,so as soon as I get a modular case I will spend all my disposable income on filling it up.
I am a completely untalented electronics hack. But I think I may just have to dig through the Library's collection of Traister and Mims books to find a schematic that does this. Then just build a box myself.
But then I am 3 deep on soldering projects at the moment.

What about this:
http://www.synhouse.com/originalmidijack.html
Claims to work with the SH-09 and directly gives you midi in as well.

I'm not interested in midi.

Try putting a 1.5 volt drycell in series with the trigger.

Re: CV Gate converters??
that would get me to 6.5 volts, not 7.5. It would also offset the 0 to 1.5V+ as well right?rhino wrote:Try putting a 1.5 volt drycell in series with the trigger.

Re: CV Gate converters??
this is very true about eurorack. it's the trendiest thing going on right now. but it took me all of 10 seconds to offset and attenuate a 10V pp AC pulse into a perfect 7.5V DC gate using an A-183-2. can't get any easier than that for clueless noobs like me. s**t is instant. not the cheapest solution, but definitely easy. if you already have DE's, you might as well get a small euro case for auxilliary modules. lots of fun to be had.
A-183-2 - $65
uZeus + power - $105 (build your own enclosure)
or A-100 minicase - $120
I cheated with a Jones scope though so I could hit the nail on the head at 7.5V.

You bastard, that is nerd kryptonite. Now I have to get a eurorack set up just for that.
You are so going to h**l.

lol yes and you have more options than one, thanks to Dave Jones.
if your flavor is Moog Units, I believe SSL is coming out with one too (coming soon). http://steamsynth.com/ModulesMU.aspx

Re: CV Gate converters??
Just build a level shifter on protoboard. You would need only a few parts: CD4069 Hex inverter, 7.5V (or ajustable) Vreg, a load resistor, some caps

OK, so use twocalaverasgrande wrote:that would get me to 6.5 volts, not 7.5.rhino wrote:Try putting a 1.5 volt drycell in series with the trigger.

The 0V is not that important, as long as the voltage drops significantly below 7.5 it should work.
