Be patient. You'll be sick of hearing me play the thing soon enough.

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
I didn't officially place an order because I was afraid the shipping date was going to get pushed back (lo and behold!) The guy from GC that I spoke to on the phone said he'd give me a call a few weeks before they're supposed to ship, at which point I can place a preorder to pick up in the store.garranimal wrote:Did you have them ship to your house or pickup in store? I haven't pre-orded anything from them before. At the time I asked the service rep about it and he said the units go to the store sooner, then orders are filled that are shipped to addresses. Supposedly I'm getting an email (automated?) when my unit arrives in the store.thestreets wrote:I'm just going to wait until Guitar Center physically has them, rather than pre-ordering. I've had bad experience with pre-ordering stuff and then seeing it in the store, while I'm waiting for mine to be delivered.
I did this exact thing when the R3 came out, and it worked out perfectly.

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
Same way I did it with my minibrute. I allied myself with a worker in a local store. Didn't pay anything in advance.
He was also a bit annoyed at Arturia for not telling their dealers anything, nor the importers knew a thing, so he just had to push back the date by two and two weeks.
But I'd been so interested that he called me the day they got the first package, he thought I should get it even though there were many others on the waiting list.
Being nice and dealing with people in person helps.

Subscribe to his automatic gainsay youtube channel and you'll get the updates as soon as he posts them on youtube.
There's lots of other great synth series there aswell. When he does a series like this we usually get a new one every day or once a week, depending.

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
wow. going on 50 pages of excitement over what is a straight-legacy repackaging of a functionally dubious, in several ways, albeit much-loved, classic
it says more about modern economics than anything - considering all the choices already available - that this would generate so much interest in 2013
a smart move by Korg. hopefully it will influence the development of something new.
A multitimbral analog sound-engine Electribe would be the logical next step. whether that's as economically feasible is another matter.

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
Well, for the past 20 years, everyone has been clamoring that Roland should remake an exact Jupiter-8 clone, or Moog should remake an exact Minimoog clone (not voyagers), Korg should remake an MS-20 clone..now that they do, people complain that they're not innovating

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
I've only seen one complaint that Korg didn't go ahead and produce a newfangled MS-30 instead - and it was from some johnny-come-lately that hasn't had any analog synths
notice i'm not complaining, only describing my POV.
Elektron and Arturia gear is relatively low-yield and prone to being released in beta a la Waldorf, but they qualify too.
Jomox blurs the line, as Jurgen has a 'regular' line that is produced in batches...but by a pretty much one-man operation. But Sunsyns are not regular; they're so far two runs-and-done.

Doepfer is mass-production, for sure. Their modules are made in big batches only.Walter Ego wrote:Very nit-picky comment, but...silikon wrote: Infrasound wrote:Other than DSI there's no-one producing real analogue for the mass market
Moog.
Elektron.
Arturia.
Studio Electronics.
Doepfer.
Analogue Solutions.
Vermona.
Sherman.
Korg. (monotron, monotribe)
The only two mass-producers on this list are Moog and Korg.

like Buchla, most of my modcan system is digital w/ CV control.
other than the VCAs and filters, it can do things that would be otherwise impossible/or grossly prohibitive using only a fully analog system.
but yes, the expense is prohibitive at this price-level with all the D/A and A/D conversion married to each jack.

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
There have been plenty of "this is like that, but NEWER and BETTER and BRIMMING WITH NEW FEATURES" synths over the years. This is the first time a major company has just given back something we wanted that they used to make.
I'm having a great time with it. And, I have to admit: there is something very liberating and relaxing about having a NEW synth that does what the old synth did. I am not terrified that it's going to fail. I'm not terrified that something will happen to it. I'm not... terrified. I can just buy a new one if something goes wrong... for a reasonable price.
I'm really liking this.
Sadly, I know that I'm SOL in regard to Roland. If they jump on the bandwagon, they're NEVER going to remake the SH-1000.

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini
*sigh*....yeah, Roland. oh how i miss thee.
On a similar note, I'm not sure that Yamaha's any smarter in this respect, either. Cruise-ship/Casino bands and Church-music seems the utmost priority to them... but that's why it's a great thing there's so many other viable options around.
the truly innovative stuff isn't likely going to come from the big J3, though. Ciat-Lebonarde, metasonix, Dewanatron,...shoot i'd even like to see more cross-instrumental tech thinking, such as Moog marrying an e-bow-per-string with their other synth and filter tech in their new harmonic sustainer-thingamabob.
we're not getting anything much from the J3 along those lines....oh wait there's the D-Beam... whoopeeee
also the thick metal faceplates, in-house paintjob/silkscreen, extensive in-house R&D that most module designers don't even bother with because they can just copy a schemtaic, many are triple & quad modules(duh).
And unlike most companies making anything tech, Bruce also never releases a v2 or updated version of anything. when it's released it's done and that's it. that's confidence.

go Korg, go!
rah rah rah!!!

Alright, one of my fave artists bought this modcan system a few months ago, wonder what that cost him

I went to their website but the price is canadian dollars and it says they don't ship outside canada?
