Re: New Novation Bass Station?
I don't think they've said it outright, but the original Bass Station was DCO. I like DCO in synths like Juno60 and Matrix 6. What I like most about this is the compact, and feature laden design. Light up wheels are meh.

Anyway I'm glad there's a synth out there now for people who want the convenience of a VA but want real authentic analogue but don't want to put up with the quirks that make analogue synths so special.
Nope. VCOs.volumetrik wrote:Has it been confirmed they are DCOs?
Isn't new ms-20 also DCO and new moogs?

Added some (memory, step seq) but also taken away some (CV, VCO, unique waveshaping, etc.)Jabberwalky wrote:Excellent. Certainly took the minibrute concept and added more. Looks like there is selection of parameters via the keys. Not sure how I feel about that. If the sound is right, this is a killer.
YOU TAKE THAT BACK!Jabberwalky wrote: Light up wheels are meh.
Re: New Novation Bass Station?
no, they are autotuned, so, they are tuned automaticaly when you are not playing.

Re: New Novation Bass Station?
man, i forgot about the hate some of you guys put out on DCO's.
That said, this thing looks pretty beast. Arguably the best deal in analog synthesis right now, even against the MS-20. Steals features from everyone else-- same architecture as the sub phatty, fm- filter thing like DSI, distortion like the brute/mopho, but the sequencing should be pretty awesome, and the fact that there's two filters? what's not to like? As someone else said earlier in the thread, these are gonna make great used pick-ups. I'd gladly snatch one up in a year for $100 cheaper. I'd even buy one now, but my money is locked up in Korg.

Man look at what this guy wrote regarding not needing cvStab Frenzy wrote:DCOs don't need CV to work, so adding CV/gate would require adding an extra converter section rather than just breaking out the CV/gate points like they can in something like the minibrute.samuraipizzacat29 wrote:what does whether or not something has dcos have to do with cv/gate?

Re: New Novation Bass Station?
Technically needing a voltage for the waveshaper of a DCO isn't the same as having CV gate built in to the synth.volumetrik wrote:Man look at what this guy wrote regarding not needing cvStab Frenzy wrote:DCOs don't need CV to work, so adding CV/gate would require adding an extra converter section rather than just breaking out the CV/gate points like they can in something like the minibrute.samuraipizzacat29 wrote:what does whether or not something has dcos have to do with cv/gate?

Re: New Novation Bass Station?
Heh well I heard that they all use some kind of digital control for stability, same thing is probably happening on the new bass stationStab Frenzy wrote:No, no and no.volumetrik wrote:Has it been confirmed they are DCOs?

Re: New Novation Bass Station?
Jeez, do we have to have the whole 'what's a DCO and what's a VCO?' sidetrack in every single thread? They have different Osc cores, it doesn't matter if the CV is generated by a digital source or not or whether the CV is corrected by digital circuitry that measures the Osc frequency.
Re: New Novation Bass Station?
It was in reference to volumetrik's previous comment. It's not really accurate of my part, though!Stab Frenzy wrote:What is this in reference to?ravenmek wrote:no, they are autotuned, so, they are tuned automaticaly when you are not playing.

Edit.
Never mind. That's what Novation's website would be for!

Re: New Novation Bass Station?
I know I'm in the minority here, but I fail to see the need for the fanboy-ism and outward excitement for another synth that really doesn't bring a lot of new features to the table.
Yes, an improvement over the original basstation, but even then the original wasn't that huge a seller.
I predict a few months or even a couple short years from now, the used market will be rife with all these cheap synths as people get them and realize they're not really that groundbreaking.
Everyone is already mental over these things, next up: people defending a corporation's choices and saying things like "this is a game-changer" and "they made this thing perfect!" (before even laying a digit on it)

I certainly hope not.Stab Frenzy wrote:Jeez, do we have to have the whole 'what's a DCO and what's a VCO?' sidetrack in every single thread?

Re: New Novation Bass Station?
Surficially, this thing looks hot, but when you get into the DCO realm, it just becomes kind of "meh" to me (kind of what Stab said)... The DSI stuff add a whole bunch of wacky, novel elements that allow you to overlook that aspect, but when there are so many new VCO monos out there, it would be hard to get excited about this... except that it does look to be stupidly cheap, so that's in its favor.
Do you even post on vse bro?
