Jupiter 6 Advice!

Post by we_squirm » Thu May 23, 2013 7:21 pm

Hey guys,

Take a look at this...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Roland-Jupiter- ... 2a2d1684f6

I REALLY want a Jupiter 6. Is programming a big deal? I don't want to get it if it's potentially messed up...

Thoughts? Advice?!

The Jupiter 6 is a great synth - probably my favorite vintage analog poly synth.

Programming is no big deal. I'm guessing the back up battery that holds your stored programs is dead. If you have decent soldering skill, you can do this yourself - otherwise take it to a tech. Better yet, send the CPU board to Synthcom and have them unstall their Europa upgrade with brings the JP-6's MIDI into the 21st century (JP-6 was Roland's first MIDI synth and MIDI on it is very basic, aka: horrible) and install new battery at same time.

The missing slider and pot caps are not too big a deal. Technology Transplant usually has reproduction replacements.

The opening bid price is OK and the Buy It Now price is a little high in my opinion.

It's too high. Just wait it out a couple of weeks on Ebay. Way better conditioned, fully working ones come up for similar prices. For 2700 you should even be able to find one that's already europa'd.

No one has one in the GTA? Did you post a WTB Craigslist ad? Kijiji?

This one is WAY overpriced when it's not fully working. You're looking at spending a few hundred bucks in repairs if you wanna go Europa on it too.

Better wait for a better offer or look on craigslist. There's always going to be some synth out there that you want. Just don't buy a 50% working one because you can't wait.

I posted on craigslist and kijiji. no luck.

if it's just a battery replacement and loading the tapes into it, it shouldn't cost me much at all right? I can replace a battery myself. I'm decent with a soldering iron.

is it really crazy?

It's a pretty bad price considering its condition plus there will be expensive shipping, duties etc. Might as well save that hassle for a really good one with europa.

It's just dry on Ebay right now for Jupe 6's. Often there are always 3-4 up between 2-3k. I would wait for one 2200-2700 perfectly working with Europa. Should only have to wait a month or two. Maybe post ads in Ottawa and Montreal, across Ontario and lower Quebec and go for a weekend drive. Keeping it in Canada will be a lot cheaper.
