Most abused synths/tones
So which synths do you think have been misappropriated the most by pop hacks? I say it's gotta be the Roland JP-8000 and its infamous "Supersaw" waveform. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard supersaw-derived tones in a club dance/trance summer anthem, I could afford most of the gear I want.
Interestingly enough, I read somewhere that Roland invented auto-tune as well...

Re: Most abused synths/tones
Dunno about "pop hacks" since I don't listen to pop music, but I'm tired of YouTube synth demos with:
String Ensemble through Small Stone phaser through delay
"Blade Runner CS-80" lead
People act like there's no other synth heroes beside Jarre, Vangelis and Kraftwerk.

The DX7 EPiano is quite common as well. (the [14]->[1] + fb[1]->[1] model)

I've see a bunch of videos of people with an OB/OB sound patch playing Jump. Of all the songs they could play.Z wrote:Dunno about "pop hacks" since I don't listen to pop music, but I'm tired of YouTube synth demos with:

I used to love that song. Now its almost been ruined for me

I think the DX7 itself is quite overplayedCS_TBL wrote:The DX7 EPiano is quite common as well. (the [14]->[1] + fb[1]->[1] model)

Though as much as I don't care for it, it does have a few cool sounds in it.

In this decade, it's got to be Modern Talking. At least as far as EDM is concerned.

Not sure about pop tracks, but the 303 (and 303 type sounds) has been pretty much overdone in the last 20 years or so (!! feeling old !!) , but then... ah it's just such a great simple sound.

Re: Most abused synths/tones
ORCHESTRA HIT. I've finally stopped hearing it in pop songs. Yes, I am hating on the orchestra hit. It has ALWAYS sounded cheesy and ridiculous.
Man, was the 90s the decade of the orchestra hit or what? Well, the late 80s too...

Really? I'm pretty sure you mean any Preset from the MK...it has a very dynamic sound pallette. It ain't perfect, but it is a mini MS-2000 (sans the motion sequencing).
