Four Operators
I was thinking of selling my dx-100, not feeling i really "need" it anymore. But i booted it up and started playing with it all day, it's just fun, limiting myself to 4-op. With the 16-bit ish sega genesis tones, anyone else feel this way?

Re: Four Operators
I'm a big advocate of the 4op synths. I was easily able to learn FM synthesis with a Dx9. Jumping right in with a Dx7 may have been more frustrating.

Re: Four Operators
Speaking of which, why does the DX9 seem to receive so much heat compared to the other yamaha 4ops?Jabberwalky wrote: I was easily able to learn FM synthesis with a Dx9.

I'm kinda fond of my DX21 which is also a 4op, its got that Tall and skinny sound, like the DX100.
I'm working on learning my way around the motherboard and the midi specification so I could build an FM Expansion board utilizing a junk Sega and the arduino stuff I have, expanding it to 8 OP with some tasty sprinkles.

Re: Four Operators
I like 4 ops FM synths. The limited amount of operators and algorithms, makes it easier to understand and program, compared to the DX7.

Re: Four Operators
Quite fond of my DX11 but i can see myself selling it soon. My DX5 simply covers all my FM needs and, after 5 years, iv learned 6 op FM and the DX7 very well. Very useful and underrated machines the 4 op synths though, always fancied trying a DX9 as its the only one with 16 voices.
