it is SO about time someone released an inexpensive AND flexible midi/cv step sequencer - very excited about this. might buy a few!

This looks great, and I'll definitely be having one... what I'd like to see next is something similar with trigger outputs, say 4 to 8, for triggering external drum modules etc.

Looking at the soft editor, looks like you have to use it to adjust swing and gate...well it is only $99.
Now just have to wait 2 months, eh

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

This is good. Can't believe it is so cheap, too.

It's got no clock or trigger inputs, so you can't use it with other sequencers. Cool if you just want to control one synth, not so useful in a modular setup, although that's a pretty niche market.Aaron2 wrote:Not only that, I'm wondering why anyone would ever buy a Doepfer Dark Time again? You can get six of these Arturias from the price of one DT!Jabberwalky wrote:I'm curious if this will have more than one CV output, to allow velocity etc. This is basically the mega cheap, small version of the arduino sequencer I'm building right now. Dammit!

unless you're using a daw as your master clock, then you just need a usb hub to mult out to how ever many beat steps you have..I wonder if you can chain then to each other midi/usb out to usb in?Stab Frenzy wrote:It's got no clock or trigger inputs, so you can't use it with other sequencers. Re: Arturia Beat Step---$99 CV step sequencer!
And to think I was considering buying 2 MMT-8's next month. I do like CV control that bypasses Midi Out conversion from the DAW, although I am always concerned about clock jitter. (See my PPS-100 thread) This looks simple, cheap and promising. Here's hoping it at least has frickin' tied notes.
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.

While I wait for it to arrive, is there anything this simple/fun on iOS? All at the step-sequencers (Little MIDI and Poly-step) I have on my iPad are nowhere near as user-friendly as this.

If you had asked me 15 years ago what things I thought that I would never see anyone asking for again in a new piece of musical equipment I would have put CV & gate connectors at the top of the list near SMPTE jacks and floppy drives. But then I wouldn't have picked this decade to be the golden age of analog modular synths either.

I like the Nord Beat for the ipad, only good really for drums though.

Re: Arturia Beat Step---$99 CV step sequencer!
There's SO much more to clocking sequencers through a clock in than just having them run in time with one another. Using clock dividers, logic modules, trigger delays etc you can get some really cool sounding rhythms going, that's why people would still want to buy a dark time.ColorForm2113 wrote:unless you're using a daw as your master clock, then you just need a usb hub to mult out to how ever many beat steps you have..Stab Frenzy wrote:It's got no clock or trigger inputs, so you can't use it with other sequencers. No, USB needs a master/slave relationship, it doesn't work peer to peer.ColorForm2113 wrote:I wonder if you can chain then to each other midi/usb out to usb in?

Re: Arturia Beat Step---$99 CV step sequencer!
damn that sucks...oh well I'll probably still grab one to hold me over until I can afford a q960 or dark time. these are going to be crazy when they hit the used market too
