What else besides the emulator can read its disks?

Re: Emulator II
The Oberheim DPX, and a PC with an Kryoflux with the right kind of 5 1/4" floppy drive.
I've got a Kyroflux setup - I'd be happy to read some disks if you need.

Re: Emulator II
Once disk banks are saved into Sound Designer format on the Mac, EMXP can convert to several different formats.Floss wrote:What else besides the emulator can read its disks?

Re: Emulator II
You can't load directly into a Mirage no. You'll need everything mentioned so far, and you'd have to convert to WAV using EMXP, then use this:
http://srpl.com/oldmachines/mirage/
to get WAVs onto Mirage floppies. Or sample the audio into the Mirage from your computer's audio output.

Re: Emulator II
I've always been curious about these sounds. If the Emulator sounds like what I think it sounds like (those weird 80s sounds that can't be synthesized normally?), what's the best way to get its sounds on a modern mac? Are there sound libraries available? Is there a digital version?
I'm looking for those weird tears for fears and non-fairlight peter gabriel sounds.

Re: Emulator II
Best way? Get an Emulator II!
They show up for a bit over $1000 every so often.

Re: Emulator II
Limited library...., although looks like they're offering it at discounted price with Emulation 1 on 7th April:madtheory wrote:UVI

Re: Emulator II
How limited? I'm very interested in this. Cheaper than forking out a grand.JMP wrote:Limited library...., although looks like they're offering it at discounted price with Emulation 1 on 7th April:madtheory wrote:UVI

Re: Emulator II
Off the top of my head, of all the Burmer, FMS, EMU and OMI 1-3 libraries you, probably get less than 5%...

Re: Emulator II
5%? That's terrible. On the other hand, the EI library is exceedingly hard to get, and the UVI has all of the "famous" sounds- basically, it's the only source. The only sound I want though, is the EI choir that Jarre used on Visions of China. Not worth $69

Re: Emulator II
That's what I care about-- the big sounds. There are probably endless diskettes to collect for this sort of thing, all at a $1000+ investment. For both sound sets of the most famous sounds (which is what I'm looking for) at about $210, I can't see how this would be a bad investment. I'm mulling it over.madtheory wrote:5%? That's terrible. Just offhand, do you guys know of any other software sets of the most famous 80's sampler sounds, besides the fairlight? I don't know much about samplers.

Re: Emulator II
On a whim, and since my EII+ is gone now, I picked up both the Emulation One and Emulation II libraries. The EII library (take this with a grain of salt since I have yet to dive into it) has on order of almost 4GB of sample data. Don't know if it actually includes the factory sounds plus the more famous disc sets... I'm hoping so. It did come with the drumulator samples as well, so that was a nice addition.
I know that when I had everything for the EII on flash, I believe it came in just under 8GB total for all the floppies out there that were converted to images. Which reminds me... I still have the original archive in disk storage somewhere... hmmm
The one thing about sample libraries based on older samplers, unless you're looking for something specifically off one of the sample sets that were out in the day, is it's always going to be rather limited. It's not like they created a virtual sampler that you can load your own sounds on.

Re: Emulator II
Does that mean playable on a modern computer? You should find that, and upload it.silikon wrote:On a whim, and since my EII+ is gone now, I picked up both the Emulation One and Emulation II libraries.
