Emu SP12/1200 Midi Box

The SP MIDI expands some hidden features of the E-MU SP-12 and SP 1200. A standard MIDI keyboard can be used to control pitch and note duration of the SP's samples, as well as sequencing other sound modules. Excellent for basslines and even chords on an external synthesizer. The enclosure is all black anodized aluminum.

In internal mode the keyboard is used to select a sample and play it like on a normal keyboard, within the 16 available pitch levels. The external mode uses two dedicated pads to sequence outgoing notes. Each step in the sequencer can hold one note, this allows semi-polyphony. It's also possible to control dynamic velocity in both modes

Expected retail price in the region of 200€

Ok, this look really interesting... but I'm trying to figure out what this device actually does that can't be done with a normal midi setup. Is there no way to play individual pitches of pads from midi normally? I believe that's the case, but haven't checked the manual in a while. What midi magic does this box have that can get around this?
Do you even post on vse bro?
