Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
Jeez, are they closing out their presentation with just one barely-a-demo of the Kodyssey? Really?
Guess I'll have to wait for AutomaticGainsay to get a prerelease edition or whatever.

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
There was enough of a demo to tell that it sounds like an Oddy. Wish the guy could have gotten more of a hold of the resonance though, he wasn't really doing himself or the synth any favours.

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
So is it $1,499 or $999? People have been posting both numbers on this thread. I had to leave the demo during David Friend's speech, so I didn't hear.commodorejohn wrote:$999 isn't too bad.
Is that Jim Henson as Dr. Teeth asking about the Kronos pricing?

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
I can live with that. Street price is likely to be $949 to start, maybe $899 later.Stab Frenzy wrote:US$999

yeah, I don't really want to spend another grand on another mono, but once they start showing up used I will go for one. Or might sell some stuff...

Complete with people getting outraged at the placeholder price.

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
I for one have no problem with the price. That is a much better deal than some of the other monos out there. And personally I find the lack of patch storage the part that makes this superior to a mopho, Phatty etc.
drum roll....no firmware!
as far as slightly smaller keys, it didnt seem to be slowing down snarky puppy or whomever that guy was.

"Slim" keys confirmed
Korg sent me an MS-20 mini last year - It's almost, but not quite, entirely unlike the real thing

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
Yeah, if you have issues with the MS-20 Mini you're gonna have the same issues with this, no doubt.
Luckily for me, I have no problem with it.

Yeah their demo video with the jazz playing and EP-style tones isn't exactly heartening.

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
As a long time Ultravox fan, I was really looking forward to this. I was hoping against the odds that Korg wouldn't go down the route of the MS20. Alas they have, well apart from the price, at just over 900GBP will mean 1200 euro. That's twice the price of an MS20 mini, and forgetting the history of the originals, at the-end-of-the-day they're both 2 Osc mono synths.
I would have been ok with the price if it was a full-sized model, but not for a mini version. I'll still look forward to giving it the once-over in the flesh, but the build-quality will have to be far better than the MS20 mini to justify the cost.
On a more positive note, even though I'd have gone with the black/red version anyway, it's great that they're producing all 3 versions, even if 2 are limited editions.

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
I'm bummed though not too surprised at the price.
Even at $999, it's more than I would pay and I really miss the Odyssey that I sold 25 years ago like an idiot. The mini keys and wall wart are the last straw for me

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
I'm reserving judgement on the mini/medi/micro keys.
They said 14% smaller which doesn't seem to me to be as much smaller as the MS20. First time I saw one of those in person I was kind of shocked at how small the keys were.
I'm kinda hoping there isn't too much of a gold rush on the limited edition colors because I do have my heart set on the white one, but in the end it's just another sound source. And I will most likely end up sequencing it from my modular anyway. So pish posh on the keys.
