Hey! I have a Korg Ds-8 that I like using as my master keyboard with it's great keyboard feel and aftertouch. Anyways, it work 100%, saves patches fine, and has no issues EXCEPT that it will not save my midi settings in the global menu. It always forgets my midi channel, if omni is on/off. I don't really understand why, since it saves everything else. Can anyone else with a DS8 chime in? Is this the way it was designed or do I have a dying battery?
Thanks,
Karl

All the Function mode settings should be stored automatically, it should remember the MIDI channel, and OMNI on/off, etc. Could be a battery thing, not really sure, but I hope that helps.

Looking at the service manual, it appears to have two RAM chips in it.
A 8k and a 2k chip.
I bet the 2k chip is where global settings are probably saved, might not be getting battery voltage to it or it's defective.
ALso could be a data line to signal write mode to it.. if it doesn't get a Write signal, it won't save.

Lots of synths do that, it's probably a "feature".

Storing "local on/off" used to cause headaches.madtheory wrote:Lots of synths do that, it's probably a "feature".
"my synth has died" "did you check the local settings" "yes, I'm here in Brighton"

That's true. The Poly800 tape switch used to get everyone!

Hi!
I have the same problem, well, kinda the same. DS-8 seems remembering MIDI channel setting, but everything else (like my pedals alignment) needs to be set up again after turning instrument OFF. Did anyone has the same problem?
