Re: Richard Tandy
What a highly underated keyboard player/writer Richard Tandy is.
Love that album, and I have the concert from 2001 on DVD.
We had tickets to go see the show in Auburn Hills, Mi but a month or so later the tour was cancelled due to lack of ticket sales.
Same thing happened with Genesis w/Ray Wilson and The Blue Nile..Had the tickets in my hand and then cancelled..
Anyway, I can't tell from the concert, it's much too dark.
I did find this little bit of info during a search. Not sure of the accuracy but here's a bit of info.

Can't Get It Out Of My Head (Los Angeles, May 2001)
"[The keyboards used on Can't Get It Out Of My Head in] 2001 was a Kurtzweil, as part of a midi set up, with a Roland RS5, and a Roland Juno."
Richard Tandy (March 20, 2004 - Showdown mailing list)
I would say:
- left: Kurzweil (not sure which) below Roland RS5.
- centre: grand piano with Roland Alpha Juno on top with Wavestation SR and Studio Electronics Omega 8 (the big rack),
- right: Roland VP330+ above Wurlitzer EP200.

Re: Richard Tandy
Richard Tandy is one of my favourite keyboard players. All the great synthesizer stuff he did on Out of the Blue is amazing and has really inspired and been a great influence.
Shame they didn't perform more of the Out of the Blue-songs on the Zoom tour...

Re: Richard Tandy
I listened to OOTB again yesterday and what a great collection of catchy tunes it is. I also love "Time" (1981). In fact, that's the album that got me into synths.

Time is my #1 favorite record. There's something about the writing and production that really gets me. I've listened to it at least a couple times a week for the past ten years

Re: Richard Tandy
I was 14 when it came out and I think it was the first album I did not regard as a collection of songs. I liked the way the song segued into one another and the concept of the album, that of a man travelling to the future only to be disappointed with the experience. The album's sound is very consistent and it is indeed well produced, not as dense as Out of the Blue but full of catchy tunes likewise. The synth sounds are excellent throughout. The last good ELO album although I do like a few tracks on Secret Messages and Balance of Power.Peopleunderthesun wrote:Time is my #1 favorite record. Re: Richard Tandy
We are in the far future already, and I'm pretty disappointed too. No flying hover cars, no hoverboards, no unison leotards, no androids, no warp drives and space exploration and all the ladies don't wear latex
And all the newly released synths try to mimic the 70s classics as much as possible.
I'm giving Time a listen right now, never heard it before. Only heard their greatest hits songs. It's nice, very spacey.
Which is natural for the theme of the album. This was such a great time for the band.

Not sure. The subsequent tour was a flop, I think, and turned out to be their last. With the classic line-up, that is.Bitexion wrote:This was such a great time for the band.

Re: Richard Tandy
Another ELO/Tandy fan here (since I was a young kid) - Out of the blue is one of my favourite albums, but I also love face the music, a new world record, discovery and time. Some of the synth work on those records is beautiful. I'm often playing the bass synth line from turn to stone when testing out the fatness of a synth.......

Re: Richard Tandy
Going back to the 'Time' album, it's funny how they used very few synths on it. In terms of numbers, that is. According to the liner notes and other sources, they only used an Oberheim OB-X, a Yamaha CS-80 and the SLM Concert Spectrum string machine, which has a few other sounds up its sleeve. The rest is a Yamaha acoustic piano and a Wurlitzer electric piano. There is, it seems, no MiniMoog or Polymoog on 'Time'.

Re: Richard Tandy
Richard Tandy synth fans should check out Tandy/Morgan - Earthrise, and album he made with Dave Morgan released in 1985. Synths all over the place! Sci-Fi themes! Vocoder robot voices! Not quite up to the standards of ELO, but a fun record with a number of high points.

I was looking for this on Spotify the other day but no luck. I will listen to the YouTube version.coastalscrub wrote:Richard Tandy synth fans should check out Tandy/Morgan - Earthrise, and album he made with Dave Morgan released in 1985.
