Easy: "Da Da Da (I Don't Love You You Don't Love Me)" by Trio. Uses a Casio VL-1 for the rhythm. The VL-1 (super-cheap monophonic analog synth) and SK-1 (super-cheap sampling keyboard) were both widely used, but I can't think specifically of other songs that used them.

Casio VL-1
"The (Yamaha) CS-80 is a step ahead in keyboard control, and a generation behind in digital control" -- Dan Wyman, Jan 1979
Re: Songs with Casio or Yamaha keyboards?
If I'm not mistaken the Casio VL-1 does the lead line on Rational Youth's "Cité Phosphore" (1982):

Who Was That used a VL-1 apparently.
Plus, was the Mario theme made on a Casio?

Trisomie 21 used a Casio on their first EP "Le Repos Des Enfants Heureux". While I'm not sure which one exactly, it sounds a lot like the CT-310 I have. There were a handful of the CT keyboard that shared the same drum patterns and accompanying chord sequences.

So weird, this was just released today: Ben Folds on a Casiotone 201, Casio's first consumer keyboard (after the VL)

Autechre used SK-1 and Miranda Sex Garden used the CT-202.

Re: Songs with Casio or Yamaha keyboards?
Steve Reich used four Casio 202s on his Sextet in 1985.
Someone used a Casio 1000P on Top of the Pops at about the time they first came out. I can't remember who; I just remember seeing it at the time.
Then there's Au Revoir Simone (who I happen to like, though not everyone on this site does
), with the Casio MT70 on many of their tracks - very well played for the sound and feel of the music, I think.

Fred Frith used a Casio MT30 on Massacre's Killing Time, and Casios on some of his subsequent projects like Cheap at Half the Price.

Re: Songs with Casio or Yamaha keyboards?
my fravourite is "The man whose head expanded' by the Fall, which uses a very cheesy casiotone (VL-1 ?) beat for the first part. Then Marc Smith declares "turn that bloody blammy space invader off!" and the song moves into wonderful freedom without the wooden casiotone beat.
Its amazing to have the contrast of with/without casiotone structure and it suits the song's subject - schizophrenia and social dislocation. I like the post-modern self-reference to the casiotone also.

"On the following day , the sorcery undespairingly continued: I changed my series, chose other sequences, cut other lengths, spliced different progressions, and hoped afresh for a miracle in sound." (Stockhausen)

Re: Songs with Casio or Yamaha keyboards?
PYT by Michael Jackson used a Yamaha portasound keyboard for the chord stabs in the verses.
Re: Songs with Casio or Yamaha keyboards?
I do believe the Casiotone 201 predated the VL-1 by a year or so. Afaik it was the first Casio keyboard to hit the market back in 1980.rsaintjohn wrote:So weird, this was just released today: Ben Folds on a Casiotone 201, Casio's first consumer keyboard (after the VL)
Speaking of the 201, it was also used by Landscape on their album From the Tea-rooms of Mars ....(released in early '81 but recorded in mid '80).
The Casio MT-40 (also 1981) was apparently the basis for the reggae tune “Sleng Teng Riddim”:
"The (Yamaha) CS-80 is a step ahead in keyboard control, and a generation behind in digital control" -- Dan Wyman, Jan 1979
