Recommendations after Virus Ti

hey all

I'm looking for some ideas for potential replacement of my Virus Ti.

Whilst I love the Virus I do sometimes feel its starting to sound a little dated and that it might be time to part with it. I'm looking for the following kind of feature-set

- a synth that has FAT analogue sounds (I know the virus is pretty good here) - but is there something better?
- has bright sounds, strings, pads to die for!
- Something that has a great, versatile ARP feature
- Will need a decent sized keyboard (5 octaves ideally) that can be split, i.e. multitimbral.
- well-built but not massively heavy (like the virus is!!!)
- great, intuitive, hands-on interface. I'm not into digital LED panels really, so I'm thinking VA ideally (I love the balance the Ti gives in this respect).
- price: probably no more than £1000 (can be second hand) but I would consider more if there is a good reason I should!

Any thoughts? I feel the Virus does most of the above pretty well....but it is getting old, and I'm sure there must be something out there to rival it now!

To be honest I think you'll find nothing will meet all of those requirements.

If the Virus works why change it? A synth is only as good as the programmer, you can make a 70's synth sound current if you push it in the right direction. Similarly the Virus should easily be capable of being whatever you want it to, it's pretty hard to find a more adaptable and modern sounding synth than the Virus.

That said if you feel like trying something different then go for it, but you'll have to try things out yourself to see what you like. Go to a decent music store, try as much as you can, Waldorf, Nord, Roland, Korg and see where it takes you. Keep open minded.

You might like to try out the new Roland Boutiques too if cheap knobby and analog sounding is your requirement

Yes....even after this short time, I'm thinking actually there is nothing better at the moment than the Virus for what I need. I probably just need to spend more time getting to grips with sound creation!

Aside from price and the multitimbral aspects, first thing I think of is the Prophet 6. I kept hearing similarities between it and the Virus when I got a chance to play one, especially for the more subtly distorted sounds.

When I read his spec, the first thing I thought of was the Waldorf Q.

Well, maybe also the KingKorg and the Radikal Technologies Accelerator - but price will be an issue.

I think my modest (good or bad) contribution was given; as a matter of fact...I wrote: Studiologic Sledge 2.0.

The rest of the sentence, it was just a "way to say" since "the needs" are so personal....but of course, if you extrapolate it ... it could sound rude; but that was not my intention. and it was part of the first part of the sentence where I wrote my advice.

Does it have to be hardware? You could get Omnishere 2, Massive and Hive and that would cover a huge amount of ground.
