What poly-synths can have separate envelopes per voice?
For complex, evolving pad sounds, where each voice is different -- what polyphonic synthesizers can have separate envelope controls and values per voice?
I am thinking along the lines of like the Oberheim Four and Eight voice, or an Alesis Andromeda (in Mix Mode -- each patch in the mix can have it's own envelopes and patch settings)
Do any of the other Oberheims have the ability to have fine grained control over each voices envelopes? Omega/Code 8? Voyetra?
Cheers!

I believe the Xpander allows this, and allows you to treat each voice as a separate synth. I'm not 100% sure if each voice would then require a separate gate and pitch input though. Worth looking into. The Shear Electronics Relic-6 synth (an Oberheim-X remake I believe) has controls to vary the envelope, pitch, and stereo field slightly between voices, but does not allow complete control over each separate voice.

DSI tetra does, depending on which mode you're in.
Re: What poly-synths can have separate envelopes per voice?
Not in the Oberheim category but,
The Ensoniq ESQ-1 has three oscillators each with it's own DCA.
Each DCA can be assigned to have it's own ENV
It has 4 Envelopes of which ENV4 is hardwired to DCA4: the Final Volume
It's an 8 Voice Polyphonic synthesizer so if you layer two sounds you have a 6 OSC sound that is 4 Voices Polyphonic with 2 individual Analog Filter Envelopes at work as well.

Thanks for the replies everyone -- and Its ok if its not in the Oberheim category!, I am curious which hardware synths have this flexibility in general
I see ESQ-1's for sale alllll the timeeeeeeee in my area on Craigslist, interesting! Ill have to give these a second look.
EDIT: Oops, while were on the topic of Digital Synths, of course the DX7 and other FM synthesizers have this ability to edit the individual operator envelopes as well
But do any analogs?

With a midipal you can just chain whatever synths you want together to do this.

Vermona Perfourmer in poly mode has seperate envelopes per voice but is not a polysynth.
It is all about sharing...
Re: What poly-synths can have separate envelopes per voice?
Akai timbra Wolf allows 4 different sounds so chords Can have
individual sounds for each jet if that is what You mean.
It is a 4 voice analog synth with different voice config and sequencer
It Can be 4 mono sounds on different midi channels as Well.
The esq-1 Can not do that however akais synth engine i rather small
Cheers

It is a polysynth in poly mode. It's just like the Oberheims, multiple mono synths tied together for polyphonic operation.Yekuku wrote:Vermona Perfourmer in poly mode has seperate envelopes per voice but is not a polysynth.
Each voice is simple: one VCO, one VCF, one VCA, one LFO and one EG...much like an SH-101. Not only does each voice have it's own EG, each voice can be totally different...VCO waveform, pitch

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

The Fizmo can have 2 independent voices per part, and has 4 parts that can all have their own envelopes and settings. I never find that it needs more than one or two though, as it's easy to get carried away and program something odd!
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

I suppose the Roland V-Synth might fit in this category if you set up a unique zone per key.

That's not the same on the A6 and V-Synth (and tons of other synths), what they do is split (and / or layer) keyboard zones. That will give you different settings for different zones of the keyboard, but you cannot set them up per voice.Ncapone wrote:I suppose the Roland V-Synth might fit in this category if you set up a unique zone per key.
The individual operators, yeah, but that's part of the "synthesis engine" and also not different voices.Brik wrote:of course the DX7 and other FM synthesizers have this ability to edit the individual operator envelopes as well

Roland D-50, because every sound can be made up of 4 "parts", each part being its own set of oscillator, LFO, envelopes and filter.
Newer synths, the Yamaha Motif XF for instance. Has 8 separate "minisynths" that can be combined in each sound.

^ Both of these examples are also splitting, resp. layering, and not assignable per voice.
