Don't forget to TURN ON THE SYNTHESIZER. Often this is the reason why you get no sound out of it. - ARP 2600 manual, 1971

It sounds pretty great... I hear some stuff that is near identical to wavestation but with the great analog filters. I'd love to demo it for them... knowing the wavestation intimately of course I think we could drag some pretty great stuff out of it somehow

"We don't think it will be cheap, though"
I remember when Jupiter-8 came out, it cost $8000 in stores. And was sold out almost immediately.
New synths were never cheap.

The Bonedo article expects more than 3,000 Euros:Bitexion wrote:"We don't think it will be cheap, though"
That roughly translates to "concerning the price, it likely will be over 3000 Euros".Bonedo article linked above wrote:Preislich dürfte er jenseits der 3000 Euro liegen

A brand new Oberheim OB-8 cost $7000..I wonder what that is in "now" money.

According to this inflation calculator - $7000 in 1983, now equates to $17,120.69Bitexion wrote:A brand new Oberheim OB-8 cost $7000..I wonder what that is in "now" money.

I love the design of the Quantum, it's pretty stunning, but I'm not sure about the sound - I feel as if I've heard it all before.

Re: Waldorf Quantum - new 8 voice hybrid poly
It seems like the ideal hybrid. Really powerful synthesis possibilities; can do traditional subtractive or digital wavestation style. But it also has a sampling input for granular synthesis. I think it represents the state of the art. For all those people who were clamoring for something new, I think this is it. Nothing revolutionary, but still a powerful combination of different synthesis methods, with a great mod routing system, AND 61 keys AND looks pretty. I am way more excited about this than about the clone wars over at Behringer.

Although I do not own one, the Waldorf Q is one of my favorite synths. If this new Quantum is anything like the Q regarding sounds and features, I may have to use next year's tax return to buy a Quantum.
Go to this page and select the audio demo called qwerk, and you too will want a Q. Crank it (good speakers or headphones are a must):

Aesthetically, it's also quite reminiscent of the Wave. A nice reminder of its pedigree.AnalogKid wrote:If this new Quantum is anything like the Q regarding sounds and features, I may have to use next year's tax return to buy a Quantum.

I hope the MIDI clocking works properly this time

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Yes touchscreen! Finally. Love the design and features but just never been into the Waldorf sound and this is no different. Nice synth though.

Re: Waldorf Quantum - new 8 voice hybrid poly
I really like this. As said, the sound is maybe nothing revolutionary, but I could seriously downsize my studio. This could easily take the place of 2-3 of my current synths. I thought is sounded pretty cool with the parallel filters going too. I wonder if they will make a rack version?

Re: Waldorf Quantum - new 8 voice hybrid poly
Looks & sounds interesting. Price is a bit steep, but if it's better build quality & less bug-ridden than other Waldorf stuff it could be tempting.
