Don't think that's right. I thought only the JX-3P used the IR-3109 -- same as Jupiter 8 and Juno 60 -- while the JX-8P and JX-10 (and MKS-80 rev. 5) used the IR-3R05.madtheory wrote:They all use the same 3109 filter chip.

If this page is correct, it is as you say.CfNorENa wrote:Don't think that's right. I thought only the JX-3P used the IR-3109 -- same as Jupiter 8 and Juno 60 -- while the JX-8P and JX-10 (and MKS-80 rev. 5) used the IR-3R05.madtheory wrote:They all use the same 3109 filter chip.

Ah, missed that fact. Is there a sonic difference between IR3109 and IR3R05 though? AFAIK they're just wired differently, apparently 3R05 allows ready access to the two filters?
From what I can see, no-one has done a careful side by side comparison where the synths in question have been calibrated as per service manual. That would settle it. Until then, we have subjective opinion. That's fine, keeps the price of the Juno 106 and the JX10 down

Re: Roland JX showdown: JX-3P vs JX-8P vs Super JX10
I realize that this is a bit of an old topic at this point, but I just thought I would mention for anyone visiting this thread now, that the Vecoven upgrades for the JX10 have really taking it to another level. With a straight EEPROM swap you get snappier envelopes, more envelopes (two of which are multipoint), more LFO‘s, wonderful sysex and CC midi control. Now all of this is cool, but if you want you can also install the PWM boards that give you pulse width modulation available for every oscilator’s pulse wave, (without having to do the sync trick that loses you one oscillator (not always the biggest deal on a 24 osc synthesizer). And what’s more, you can also install the new memory upgrade that gives you 1 billion internally stored patches… (OK I’m exaggerating, but you get the idea.) So yeah, if you’re interested in a JX10, you can pick one up for cheap, and turn it into a total beast with the Vecoven upgrades. And lastly, if you get a JX10 and perform the Vecoven upgrades, you can control it all with a BCR2000 and the 5 page patch I wrote for it available on GS and FB.
