Either stupid or brilliant keyboard setup...
I'm looking for advice on a keyboard setup that I plan to use live... I plan to duck-tape my Akai Miniak to the top of my Nord Electro 3 HP.
Why you may ask?
Because I'm the lead singer in the band, and I can't have a 2nd tier stand blocking my face from the center. I think that would make for a pretty boring show. I need the 2nd keyboard to be low and off to the side.
So what I'm hoping to do is: Tape the Miniak to the upper-right side of the Nord Electro 3 HP.
Any other suggestions?

Not duct tape. It won't survive.
May I suggest, if you're going to go that route, that you put velcro strips on the bottom of the miniak and top of the electro...
Similar to this:
The only thing is you'll likely have to remove any rubber feet off the bottom unless they're low enough as to not impede the velcro. The other option is to get a smaller stand adjacent to the electro, and set your rig up at a slight angle instead of direct on (although not always optimal)...

oh my goodness. That's so incredibly smart. Do you think that the velcro adhesive will remove the red paint from the Nord over time?
Re: Either stupid or brilliant keyboard setup...
That depends on if you call it a tool or an investment.
Does a carpenter care if their hammer gets scratched, or is it a tool to get the job done?

There's no reason you can't look after your tools.atkbg wrote:That depends on if you call it a tool or an investment.

How about something like this? You could make the flat part lie horizontal at it's lowest setting so that your Miniak will hover neatly to one side, just above the Electro. I don't know how stable this would be.

Re: Either stupid or brilliant keyboard setup...
Not gonna lie, the velcro idea is really attractive because it means that I could carry less (and I already bring my acoustic guitar, the nord, the stand, the drum throne I use for a seat, mic stand, etc.).
And it would be faster to set up than an additional stand or 2nd tier.
So velcro seems like such a cool idea, I just am afraid to lose resale value if the paint comes off or becomes discolored.

The Velcro's a good idea.
If you're worried about the paint then an alternative could be a non-slip/rubber mat that you simply lie on the top of the Electro and place the Miniak on top.

Re: Either stupid or brilliant keyboard setup...
These are all hilariously brilliant ideas. But, is there anyone here with an actual Nord who's tried to put adhesive (velcro or tack or heavy tape) on their Nord?
I'd love to know if it's susceptible to chipping or discoloration.
Woah, I just read that back. I sound sooooo un-rock n' roll.

Re: Either stupid or brilliant keyboard setup...
I had a lead 2 that had Velcro on top for probably 8 years. Came off and is totally unnoticeable

I wish I could hug @silikon for how smart and awesome this idea is.silikon wrote:May I suggest, if you're going to go that route, that you put velcro strips on the bottom of the miniak and top of the electro.
And I get first hand experience from @Peopleunderthesun. Wow, I love this forum!!!!!Peopleunderthesun wrote:I had a lead 2 that had Velcro on top for probably 8 years. Came off and is totally unnoticeable

Re: Either stupid or brilliant keyboard setup...
I'd say tape would damage the Nord way more, since that stuff STICKS.
Plus it wouldn't hold the weight of the Miniak either.

Re: Either stupid or brilliant keyboard setup...
I would just get a thin, single braced "X" stand for the miniAK that has enough inner depth to allow you to place it in front of the Nord so that it hangs over it flat, then just angle it slightly off to the side. Sure, velcro will keep it on there, but having half a synth stacked and hanging off another is going to look far more tacky than it hiding your face, at least from my prospective.
Re: Either stupid or brilliant keyboard setup...
If you had a face like mine you wouldn't worry about hiding it.
